MIT Class of 2022 applicants

Idk I feel like I have a chance but I last took high school biology in 8th grade and I’m not sure I’m STEM enough for MIT

I just remembered… I have a doctor’s appointment the day of… ahhhh

Definitely send in the update as soon as possible by email.

Hey. Does anyone know if getting a financial aid verification is an indication of anything?

Hello everyone,

so the answer to this question might be kind of obvious, but I just want to make sure. So I applied to MIT, whose results are coming out in just a few days (3/14). However, I just very recently received multiple honors/awards that I believe are fairly significant (kind of inconvenient that all competitions/results happen in early March-April). A few of these updates, for example, is that I just published a research paper (first author) in an ACS journal and also I won at a regional intel science fair and thus will be presenting at the intel ISEF this year, among other achievements.

My question is, should I send the MIT folks a brief email about my achievements?

TBH, I’m pretty sure that the officers at MIT already have results out and that sending them a email won’t change anything. In fact, it will probably even be annoying to them at this point. However, my parents, friends, and counselors have pressured me to send it anyways.

What are you guys’s thoughts??

@littlechild What do you mean? Did you get an email or a message on the portal?

@equality4all It’s on the financial aid page as something that has to be done.

@littlechild I have it as well. No idea if it means something, though.

I dont think I stand a chance, but just talking to some of you guys on this thread was very comforting and made me grow in a way. This goes to show that MIT really unites a group of incredible people.
Good luck to everyone and brace for impact!

I was just thinking the exact same thing @IlluminatiIsReal!

@TwoRoadsDiverged Did you apply somewhere SCEA as well ?

Isn’t the whole point of SCEA single choice, aka not able to apply anywhere else?

I worded it wrong maybe, I was just asking if he applied SCEA anywhere.

@littlechild @frazzledazzle @equality4all I just looked up what financial aid verification for MIT is. I found some info. about it here http://sfs.mit.edu/content/financial-aid-verification. Not sure if it is randomized or only for accepted students or randomly assigned to accepted students XD… Also am not sure whether MIT would let early hints of acceptance drop before the decision date. IDK but good luck on Wednesday everyone! I’m definitely going to be part of the rejected squad though…

btw I don’t have the verification thingy on my portal. Is it like a button?

Nah MIT is particularly keen on making sure that they don’t leave any hints about being accepted. They even include a sentence in their code saying something along the lines of that “dont look here, you won’t find anything” because kids even try hacking the code of their portal to see if their gonna be admitted

It seems like it’s for people who did FAFSA…?

Yeah just means they need to verify your FAFSA

I’m thinking it’s to verify FAFSA because I have to do it for another school too. Makes a lot more sense now!

Aww, MIT’s BB-8 is called the Decision Droid.

It’s not BB-8 then, it’s a DD-8. Or DD-18.

@equality4all That’s so adorable I love it!
