MIT Class of 2023 Discussion/Decisions

Physics

Stats are posted here from MIT Admissions:
https://mitadmissions.org/blogs/entry/mit-early-action-decisions-now-available-online-2/

707 admits out of 9,600 applicants, and 6,182 deferred. Does that only leave 410-20 more spots for admission?

Deferred

Congrats @strangeorange!

@fire227 more than that. We typically admit about 1350-1400 all told. Of course, we don’t know what RA looks like yet.

Hi @MITChris if an EA applicant was not contacted for an interview, and has now been deferred, is there a chance he/she could be contacted for an interview as part of the RA process?

@MITChris I was deferred and have the same question as @wykehamist about requesting an interview. I live in DC and thought there would be a bounty of alums here but I was never contacted (and didn’t see anything on my MyMIT portal that said the interview was waived). Thanks.

One of my interviewees was admitted! I wasn’t really surprised. Of the 12 EA applicants I interviewed, she was the best. Very happy for her.

It’d be redundant to list my stats because they’re pretty similar to everyone else’s. I think MIT’s values and culture are an extremely good fit for me personally. This alignment with their values (using science and technology for a better world, being fundamentally a nice/collaborative person, creativity and risk-taking, etc.) has led me to pursue ECs that happen to end up creating a person in my application who’s not only qualified (academically), but also compelling personality-wise. Obviously “the right fit” can’t be induced, but if you have it, I think you’ll know, and it’s not required in order to get in. Hope that makes sense and is able to help someone!

Congratulations @strangeorange , @Rajam and @jmtabb !

Well, EC’s now have the admission decisions for their interviewees. I interviewed 12 and TWO were admitted! Neither surprised me. Eight were deferred.

Some stats they gave us: They received approximately 9,600 applications in EA, which is 0.4% higher than last year, and 707 students were admitted in this round. This year they deferred 6,182 students to RA.

Got Deferred.
I did not get the interview. Did any of the deferred applicants got interview?

@wowbears I know some deferred applicants who got interviews. I was deferred but didn’t receive an interview.

Are there any admitted applicants who didn’t get interview? I was wondering if an interview was essential.

Hey guys, I was deferred but I didn’t get an interview. Is there any chance for deferred students to get interviews during the regular round?

@Hope19 One of my friends was accepted and didn’t have an interview

Thank you for your answer. It is very helpful.
