MIT CPW 2014

So I'm going to MIT next week for CPW and I have a few questions...

It seems like, from the online schedule, that there will be plenty of scheduled events with food, happening all of the time. So will I end up just getting free food for each of my meals from the different events? Will we be given any money on a campus card to try out the dining hall food?

Also, will there be a lot of MIT apparel and other bling being passed out? I'd like to get some but would rather not have to buy them myself from the bookstore or something.

Yes! Yes to everything!

There’s tons of free food, and you’ll also be given some amount of money on a card to spend on campus as you wish.

I am less well-versed on the free t-shirt landscape.

And soon begins the freshman 15… :))

As @molliebatmit indicated, there will be lots of free food around… though whether CPWers or undergrads claim it first, that is to be determined.

The MIT Coop won’t give shirts away, and I doubt that your CPW goody bag will have a shirt… but you never know.

Oh, and as a warning, please do not end up passed out and drunk during CPW. That happened once while I was a student.

I don’t intend to drink at all during cpw but I’ve noticed that a lot of the events will be taking place at fraternity houses, will there be pressure to drink? (And how will we even get to the fraternity houses from campus? Some are in Cambridge but others seem to be quite far away in Boston.)

There are rules preventing anyone giving alcohol to prefrosh which I think are pretty strictly enforced.

And as for transportation, MIT runs several campus shuttles, including some that go to FSILGs in Boston – you’ll probably be given schedules for the various shuttles in your CPW welcome packet. And they’re not that far away, really. :)

If there is, leave and tell a reasonable person about what happened. It’s not allowed and it’s not okay. CPW is dry. We aren’t even allowed to have our own booze out.

Walking to many FSILGs in Boston is not too bad.
Fenway House is about 1.2 miles from the Student Center.
Tau Epsilon Phi is about 1.1 miles.
Epsilon Theta in Brookline is the furthest FSILG at about 2 miles via the BU bridge.
So, walking is quite manageable.

But, if you do not feel like walking, you can take a variety of shuttles that are available to students. <a href=“MIT Facilities - Commuter Connections”>MIT Facilities - Commuter Connections;

And, there is always the T (both subway and bus).

In my experience, probably not. People might be drinking around you, but people have pretty much gotten over drinking as some sort of absolute experience. If not, find somewhere else to hang out – if you find this somewhere, it’s probably a rare pocket.

In theory. In practice, this varies more than the IFC either realizes or wants to admit.
