MIT cross-registration with Harvard

I will be attending MIT this fall for PhD in Electrical Engineering. After I am done at MIT in 4-5 years, I plan on attending Harvard School of Government for a Masters degree in Public Policy(MPP). I know that MIT and Harvard have a cross registration program.

Would I be able to take one or two courses every year from degree requirement of MPP at Harvard during my years at MIT? Shouldn't it be easier for me to get accepted to Harvard's MPP program after I am done at MIT? Any helpful insights will be greatly appreciated!

Cross-reg instructions for grad students are here. The classes you take as a PhD student have to be approved by your advisor -- some advisors will allow students to take courses outside their specialization, and others won't.

Thank you molliebatmit.

By the way, do you think it should be easier for me to get accepted at Harvard's MPP program? I know you are not on the admissions committee, but I just wanted to hear your personal thoughts on this matter.

Unfortunately, I don't have much to offer in this area - but I am curious, what type of work are you interested in doing?

I don't know much about the admissions process for non-science programs.

I would think it's a positive thing, although I'll caution that grad programs don't often accept credit for work done as a non-degree-seeking student, so even if you took many of the required classes for the Harvard MPP, you would likely have to take them again if you were admitted to the program.

Thank you so much molliebatmit. I greatly appreciate your help.
