I know that from last year, among about 1,000 international applicants to MIT, 39 got admitted.
Does anyone know how many of the 4,776 EA deferred applicants were international?

I’ll have to correct you on this. there were 4299 applicants and 132 were accepted. Here’s the link:

@THEliberator Sorry for not clarifying. 132/4299 was the overall number. I was talking about the Early Action only.
By the way, were you deferred? Where are you from?
I was rejected - competition is very high for Indian applicants, usually only international Olympiad gold medalists are taken in, so…
@THEliberator Yes I was deferred and I’m from Taiwan. Also, I don’t quite agree with you on how only those people in India are accepted.
Please read this article:

@NoPainNoGainggg If you’ve read the article you would see that MIT uses “Bonus points”. And these often translate to those with such achievements to be given advantage in the process. I’m not being a wuss here, and I totally understand that getting an international Olympiad gold medal is really a commendable thing. But, it seems MIT is obsessed with them. At least 16 of the 18 current Indian students at MIT are international Olympiad Gold medalists. And I know of some who have interacted with these admits and they’ve communicated that these students are like a “corpse”, they’ve lied on their applications, and are good only at getting marks on tests such as these. You can check some CC threads on this subject and you’ll get to know.
All I want to say is that such great reliance on a single factor, when you deem the process to be “holistic” is a perplexing revelation. I know that, partly, this frustration is a manifestation of my rejection from the Institution. However, mostly it is the sorrow that I feel due to the un-“holistic” nature of the admission process.
