So I have my MIT interview coming up this week and was just wondering what to expect (it’s basically my first college interview). Any advice or tips? And does anyone know how long these interviews typically last for MIT?
My friend’s son had his MIT interview last week. It was 30 minutes long and was just a discussion. He said it was really nothing more than two people sitting at a coffee shop having a conversation. Kind of like hanging out with his grandfather.
@flexzone It’s pretty informal; dress decently (no suit & tie needed) and arrive early, but no need to over-prepare for it.
The interviews I do usually last about an hour.
Think of a few questions that you can ask of the interviewer.
If you have anything that you would like to show to your interviewers, then bring it with you. I have worked on a research project in a large group (~15 students), and I primarily worked on statistical information and the website. I view the interview as a way to express myself to MIT in a way that the online application can not already do. Make sure to come up with questions for the interviewer!
You can practice for your interview. Basically, it is an informal conversation about yourself. It is a topic about which you should have some expert knowledge, but which few people have much experience talking about. You can get a friend or family to interview you. What do you enjoy and/or dislike? What do you really enjoy doing for fun? What regrets do you have? Why do you want to go to MIT? It is not hard to practice. Now most of these questions are unlikely to show up at the interview. I have interviewed for MIT for some years, and I am unlikely to ask “What is your favorite color and why?”, but practicing talking about yourself really can help you relax and enjoy the interview.
Thanks everyone for helping! I had my interview today and I think it went pretty well, and we ended up talking for about 2 hours lol.
