MIT is the most underrated university on College Confidential

Hi,

I have been accepted to many top tier universities but ultimately chose MIT. Almost all of the responses I got in college confidential told me that MIT sucks.

I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THAT MIT IS TOTALLY MISREPRESENTED AT COLLEGE CONFIDENTIAL. DONT LISTEN TO WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT MIT ON COLLEGE CONFIDENTIAL.

I followed the advice of college professionals, whose advice differed. Some told to consider MIT and Stanford, others told me MIT and Princeton, others told MIT or Yale, others told just go to MIT, some said JH and MIT. what i noticed was that MIT was the only one never excluded and I followed the advice of the professional rather than ppl who pretend to be professional at college confidential.

In short,

MIT is a very diverse place.

MIT is not only a science/ engineering school.

MIT is not just about nerds. Do you know that Kofi Anan, the president of Israel, the president of singapore, the president of USA central bank and of Euro bank are all MIT grads?

MIT Sloan is gr8. iT HAS MORE NUMBER ONE PROGRAMS THAN ANY OTHER UNIVERSITY IN THE WORLD. (according to us news, qs rankings, or which ever u follow) it also offers the widest range of electives of all the us business school.

entrepreneurship is gr8. don't be mistaken that "MIT people end up working for ivy league graduates." MIT has produced more companies than other university in the world : 26000. and this number is only about alumni and not faculty. They create 3.3 million job opportunities and 2 trillion dollars revenue, more influential than other university. Even Stanford cannot compete with this - 5000 companies for 750 000 jobs.

MIT is hard, but its anything but busy work. It's hard because its advanced, tests deep deep understanding, and the pace is fast. I have heard, from ppl here who come from other universities, that the freshman economic class here tackles subjects discussed in 3rd year at other colleges. The same applies to bio. EXPECTATIONS ARE HIGH HERE. MIT IS NOT BUSY WORK.

MIT debate team has gotten the first place more than once, MIT shooting regularly beats US navy and army, MIT has the best ROTC (army, navy, or air force training) program in the US, MIT wins more engineering contests than any other school. MIT students are multi-talented and not one dimensional science geeks.

MIT's humanities are very very strong.
9.i doubt than any other school comes close to MIT UROP program.

If you take all universities without their medical schools, MIT is the most funded by the industry in terms of research.

MIT does produce crazy things. People here have created artificial vocal cords, 3-D printers, implanted human livers in mice, invented an artificial photosynthesizing machine, made algae produce more hydrogen to ue as energy. You can't find this anywhere else!

MIT has the yest urban planning department in the world. It is also in the top 3 architecture schools worldwide.

MIT campus is gorgeous, big, new, well equipped, advanced technologically.

Food is gr8 at MIT, and plentiful and varied and healthy.

MIT is not famous for companies because it sometimes produces "behind the curtains companies". Koch Company is from MIT, and this the 55th company in the world in terms of revenues. Microsoft is the 104th and apple is 110th to compare.

Boston entrepreneurship is gr8. It is now the number 1 biotechnology hub. Its economy, as a city, now exceeds san francisco's.
17 MIT offers well - rounded education. all should take humanities, arts, social sciences, athletics, sciences. and should concentrate in nowe area of humanities.

MIT is a pioneer in social sciences. It makes new approaches like archeology and materials science, anthropology and sciences, more than any other college.

MIT IS FUN.

WEATHER HERE IS GOOD FOR MORE THAN THREE-QUARTERS OF THE YEAR.
21 MIT is one of the few to offer sinlge rooms to freshman. and the rooms are big. the standards of living are high nowadays.

and the list goes on. don't listen to ppl who say hit is homogenous, busy work, for geeky nerds lacking social skills, is only for engineering, lacking experience,... etc. MIT IS WORTH IT. I think this will be my last thread on college confidential. i just want to say that everything posted on this website should be taken with a grain of salt.

ya and MIT is good for premed and pre law. their pre med acceptance rate is not in the 70’s% as most of the threads say but it s now about 85%. more than 11% of MIT applicants to harvard medical school get accepted, which is always the highest or second highest (competing with harvard college itself).

you can find google, apple, and all these companies in boston. apple has the biggest store in the us here. these companies are not only in california.

MIT students are well prepared from MCAT. when they cross register at other universities, they think MIT courses are more advanced. they usually ace classes when they take them at other institutions.

ppl here are smart and not only hardcore workers. there are many geniuses and gold international olypiads over here.

and students here are knowledgeable in politics, rights issues and all these. they are intellectuals here, but not cutthroat or competitive. ppl here amaze with how much they know about humanities issues. u don’t lose interesting humanities conversations when u go to MIT.

athletics are very appreciate at MIT.

college confidential provides inaccurate facts. it denies all of the above…

Ahh… Something New!

But the something never changes - Its still the hardest place to get into :D

hahaha so true.^

And really, it’s up to 85% this year? (for med school acceptance rate)

So if I apply as Pre-Med, my chances are greater ? :D

BTW, what’s the purpose of this thread anyway ?

20 is definitely incorrect, Boston weather is unpleasant from about November -> March IMO.

Unpleasant is relative! I’m from California, where there exists no such “humidity”, and dislike humid summers while loving cold/snowy/rainy winters. Go figure.
