Hello everyone, I am a current junior and I was thinking of applying to MIT. as of right now I have a 2160 composite SAT
790CR/670M/700W and I’m going to take the ACT and hopefully get at least a 33 with a 32 on math, hopefully a 33+ on math and composite. The problem is that MIT is a highly math/technical school and so they more so value the Math score on standardized tests, and I want to go there to study econometrics, but their 25th percentile is 750 and their 75th percentile is 800, so most people at MIT get essentially a perfect math score. I didn’t really study on that SAT, and I should have because I scored around 700 math with practice, but would that have helped me? Friend told me yes because I’m black and my SAT score doesn’t need to be as high but still, the 25th percentile is 750… Should I even apply? Even if I were to take the ACT, the 25th percentile is a 34 so at best I’m going to be well below average. Will I have a reasonable chance if I have an otherwise solid application?
I would retake the SAT. Studying can help significantly. If you can’t improve your score to a 750 on the math, put your focus on other schools. D16 applied with a 33ACT but a low math and was rejected EA.
Did you apply for MITES?
^^ What bouders said. DS applied with a 780 M and was deferred ED, rejected RD.
I did apply to MITES yes @bouders
@bouders @mdcmom The old SAT has ended and so my only option is the new SAT, which I don’t want to take because it is new so there is a lot less material out there (verified material anyway) and also because it’s kind of an unproven test, in terms of how colleges will use it to rank students against each other. I think I’ll try my best on the ACT to try and get that 34 math subscore
@Ahmeda14960 Sounds like a good plan.
