MIT RSI?

Hey guys I'm a upcoming junior in high school and I've just learned about the RSI program from MIT. From what I've read, it is crazy competitive but also a crazy good experience if you get in. So just asking: what can I do to make my chances better of getting in? How am I doing now? And anyone whose done it/applied for it, can I have some advice? My research topic would mostly likely be in computer science if i did get in. Thanks in advance guys :D

GPA: 4/4.0 UW I'm told im #1 in my class? Class size is huge
Ap's: 5 human geo, 5 world hist, 5 compsci, 4 spanish

Insanely impressive!! Like you said to me…keep up the hard work and raise the SAT just to improve your already good chances. I wish you the best of luck

@151Andrew151‌ thanks man appreciate it! any other takers?

Keep in mind that RSI has an insanely low acceptance rate (something like 3%). You are competing with ISEF finalists, International Science Olympiad medalists, and students who’ve been publishing research papers since their freshman year (no, I’m not exaggerating). All for only 50 spots. That said, you’re not completely unqualified. Good luck.

@loquatical‌ isn’t it like 8% for US applicants? At least that’s what ive read on websites. Thanks though

Alright, I lied. The overall acceptance rate is about 2.6%. Doesn’t look like MIT reports how many US applications they receive.

EDIT: If you’re in a state like California, Massachusetts, New York or the like…there’s almost no chance of getting in if MIT compares you to your fellow applicants. The competition is simply too high.

@loquatical‌ gottchu…any advice on how to improve these odds?

I dont want to be the person that says this, by all means apply you still have a chance to get in but a program like RSI is heavily numbers based and on the website it does say a minimum PSAT score of 220, but dont fret there are alternative options that provide the same resources (just not at MIT tho). Look into Stonybrook its in New York and there are others as well. <a href=“Simons Summer Research Program | Stony Brook University”>http://www.stonybrook.edu/commcms/simons/index.html</a></p>

Proof of Score “Recommendation”

@SWeLLT‌ No problem thanks for the other website! That PSAT socre was from sophomore year so we’ll see how it goes again this year lol

I think RSI doesn’t consider PSAT scores THAT heavily, as long as you have other scores to make up for it.

Friend made it into RSI with similar stats as me, he had higher SAT, but was 30 points below my PSAT score on his PSAT.

@KingOfTheFlies‌ @SWeLLT‌ provided that I get my sat and past 2500/250+ are my odds decent at best for getting into this one or clark, smir, or any of the top programs? Also if u don’t mind kingoftheflies can I see ur stats? Pm is fine

Self dreaded bumppp lol

good luck getting a 2500

Hmm I think I’ll lower my expectations to a 2250+ lol thanks man

Bumppp por favor

You should also consider what you want to do at RSI, the prestige is pretty cool but not everyone at the program ends up going to Siemens etc. All the projects don’t work out (results wise). If you are doing it for the experience consider some of the lower prestige options (as backups) similar to the one I posted, there is a Summer Programs section on CC.

Aight I found several more thanks for all the help I’ll definitely make sure I apply to a lot of them!

I’m also an upcoming junior. I only took one ap class so far and I passed it (sophomores are not allowed to take more than one). I haven’t taken the sat yet, but on the psat, I earned a low score. If I retake the psat this year and receive a 220 or higher and get more community service hours, do I have a higher chance? I have really good extracurriculars and leadership roles. I haven’t done any research yet because I’m too young. However, I am very compassionate about science. Would I receive my new psat scores in time so that way I can report them to RSI?
