Chances at RSI?

Hey, i'm kinda new to this site so excuse me if I sound like a novice.

SAT: Math: 690(will take again in January and will prob be like 720 or something) Verbal: 660 (will prob be like 700)

PSAT: Don't know yet

I am currently a junior at probably the most competitive high school in the state. Well, I was wondering what my chances of getting into RSI are with my stats. My grades aren't too high primarily because school doesn't really provide a challenge, but i get decent grades i'm in the top 12% of my class. My UW gpa's about a 3.67 or somewhere near there. But i should be in the top 10% of my class by the end of this semester.

I am currently a third degree black belt in the art of karate, which I have been practicing for the past 12 years. In addition to karate, I play the violin and classical guitar. I have made a band in which I am the lead guitarist and we have been semifinalists in The Battle of The Bands. I am also the president of my own company, Dalient Technologies; we specialize in compression and recognition algorithms. I have also helped develop the website www.centerseed.com .

I am in the school's:
Philosophy club, Robotics club (for the BEST competition), Mu Alpha Theta, Chess club, JETS, Red Cross Club, Orchestra (5 years), I tutor ninth and tenth graders in physics and chemistry, and Youth Expanding Services. I am also pushing the school to have a programming club in which participants will learn to program computers in order to create simulations for various applications. I hold officer positions in JETS ,Robotics, and chess. In JETS I am the secretary, in robotics I am the president, adn in chess i am the president.

Some of my awards and honors include:
-BEST Robotics Most elegant Robot,

I plan to major either in computer engineering or neuroscience.

Thanks you for your time.

I am also competing in USACO, UPHO. I am the captain of the science olumpiad team and Science Bowl Team

Any colleges i should consider applying to?

Will someone reply?

I really need to know if i should consider applying!

most everybody interested should at least APPLY. It's not like you lose much, right? ($25?)

what about my chances?

hmmmm, i went to rsi last year. one of my friends did an online survey: about 60% of the people had 1600s and i think like 80+% had 4.0 unweighted. i had one of the bottom 3 of both with a 1460 and 3.86. but they look at much more. if i got in, i think anybody has a chance. but i think even if you have 1600, 4.0 etc etc. your chances are still 20% max unless you have international olympiads.

Yeah, you certainly have a chance. What sort of chance, nobody knows but people who won't talk, but your list of awards and whatnot is impressive enough that I think you'll find something amazing to do this summer whether you get into RSI or not, and that's really the only thing that matters, right?

was also RSI 04

Looks like you have a very good shot at RSI, so you should definitely apply. If you write your essays really well and get strong recs (that's essentially what got me in, I didn't have much else), you'd be extremely competitive in the selection process.

I am actually writing my appliaction at this moment..(i don't wanna have to stay up the night before!!) and I was wondering if you could review if you have any time you'd like to waste on me(lol)...Thanks for replying though!

I'd be happy to look over your application and give you a few tips. Post your e-mail or AIM sn (or send me a private message with that information) and I'll contact you.

why the heck are you asking for your chances lol?

Seriously though, I would also consider applying to MIT now with your stats..

bayesguy, i'm an rsi04. i definitely think you're a strong applicant!

Do you guys think I can look at your applications...I don't think it will give me any "formula" to go by, mainly because I have alsmost completed the App., and I am quite content with what I have...but i think if i can look at your applications i can get a real idea of what RSI students are like...thanks!
