So guys and gals, I got my SAT II result yesterday and I’m stuck in a situation and need your help.
So some background info first. I am applying to MIT and it has for many years been my dream school. I am considered an International student so I had two choices,
- Take SAT 1 and 2 SAT Subject tests (1 in Math, 1 in Science)
- Take TOEFL and 2 SAT Subject tests (1 in Math, 1 in Science)
MIT recommended the second option for international students and I too believed I would be better off taking the TOEFL so that’s the path I took. I decided to take Math Level 2, Physics and TOEFL iBT.
Going into the SAT Subject Test, I was well prepared for Math Level 2 but my preparations for Physics hadn’t been complete. This is primarily because a lot of the SAT II content like Electromagnetism was supposed to be taught later this year because of the curriculum we follow(A level) and Modern Physics wasn’t even in the syllabus. So I studied these sections very briefly.
So here’s the catch. I received my scores yesterday and got 770 in physics and 800 in math. I am satisfied with my scores but I believe I can score a perfect 800 in physics too if I give the test again because I’ve studied those chapters now.
And, I had already registered for SAT II in November before.
So MIT’s deadline is in two days and I’m confused if I should
- report these October scores and change to SAT 1 in November as other universities will need that when I apply RA
- report the October Math score and get an 800 in physics in the November test and report that (though I think it might cast a bad impression of not being able to get perfect scores in a single seating)
- report November scores altogether
–All of this is assuming I get a perfect score in the November Subject Test which I’m pretty confident I will.
One disadvantage of the 2nd and 3rd approach is that I will only get one chance for SAT 1 in December but I really want a perfect score as the name of the school is ‘MIT’
And what if I decide to report November scores and somehow get a weaker score in my retest. Will I be able to change my mind and report the October score (because I would have already put the November date in the application which is due in 2 days)
So what should I do guys? Any suggestions?
