MIT waitlist contact person

I've been poking around a few sources and thinking about how to keep in touch with MIT over the next month or two, and the soundest and most common advice seems to be to find a contact at the admissions office, i.e, an admissions counselor.

Caltech made this very easy by supplying an email of the local admissions counselor in their waitlist letter.

I called up MIT earlier today asking for the contact of an admissions officer with whom I can keep in contact, but they told me to just send everything to the general Admissions at MIT email...which seems a little awkward to me, throwing everything into a nameless, faceless box which probably won't respond...so I'm not really sure what to do at this point.

Is this just like being deferred? I remember when I was deferred I made an elaborate essay-type thing and sent it in with a cover letter, but that wasn't really "being in contact" with the admissions office...any suggestions?

{hey, postcount 1,000...hehe}

zoogies, some schools have regional admissions officers who handle specific parts of the country/world, but as you know, MIT does not. They've always said the right thing to do is to send "whatever" to the general Admissions address. You might not, in fact, get a response, but your input will not be discarded, it will certainly be kept with your file for review and consideration if the waitlist opens up in May.

(PS: Congrats, "Senior Member" zoogies! :) )

I second mootmom's point. When I was deferred, I sent an e-mail to an adcounselor asking them whether I could fly in and meet them for another interview. The response was, not surprisingly, no, but the response did say that they would put the letter in my file.

Same thing when I visited campus last year and chatted with a student working in admissions office.
