Vu, I don't understand why your GC has to "clear you" to apply for any summer program. You might need a rec letter from your counselor, but other than that, a GC shouldn't have any control over what programs you apply to. And you can apply to multiple summer programs just like you will apply to multiple colleges when you are in 12th grade.

Just like college applicants talk about having a reach, match and safety, you can do the same with potential summer experiences.

Remember that a GC is there to provide guidance, not to run your life!

Thanks for your advice GSP, but I have to get cleared because I will be missing three weeks of school. It's really stupid when my GC had to actually write me a rec anyways... The little slip I gave her had the dates, which actually said "your student will have to miss blah blah blah." I still have a copy of the rec; by her signing it, doesn't that sort of legally bind her and the school to let me go?

Ok, I understand. Missing three weeks is a major issue that has to be worked out with your teachers and counselor. East coast and southern schools get out much earlier than west coast schools, and sometimes, summer programs in those areas start in early June.

You just have to concentrate on opportunities that fit into your summer schedule, as disappointing as it may be.

Do you go to year-round school vu?

I go to a charter school that decides to have an extra 15 days more than a regular school year. This is totally pointless considering that AP tests are in May. This is probably why we're starting in late-August instead of September next school year. Anywho, I got CLEARED to go. The administration told me I can go, and they said they have to ask the ITS (the teachers group at my school), but I asked all my teachers and they're more excited than anything. So I'm going to go fill out the forms to reserve my spot at MITE2S.

Are me and vu the only MITE2S acceptees on CC? I know there are a few alum on here, but I havent seen any other posts by anybody whos going this year.

I would like to know if there are any alum out there who know how everyone got their luggage to MITE2S. One bag only? Also, it seems as though you may have a small, non-air conditioned room, with minimal light. What is a necessity that you wish you had taken?

WOW latindude, I had no idea you were going to mite2s; you kind of hinted at it, but I just wasn't sure. That's great, we should talk to each other through pm or something.

About the luggage, I just talked to someone who went to mite2s last year from my school. I asked him if I would need a fan, and his exact words were "h**l yeah, it gets pretty hot." He also said a "bright light would be very helpful."

Some things to bring: sandels, a big towel, i'll get back to this forum once I he remembers more things

More things added to list: "picture of family, very LOUD alarm clock, bring two picture ids and leave one in your dorm, playstation 2 is cool, binder with dividers, planner, laptop."
