MITES 2011 Information & Discussion

OMG… two days! :open_mouth:
has anyone received mail yet? :O

what do SL and HL stand for? dude good luck man! that sounds incredibly difficult!!!
10 courses… woah.

Cw- read past pages lol. I got mail, skepticidal did, umm… Padillak, and I’m sorry I forget the others :(

So far- two acceptances, two rejections, and I was accepted to another MIT program for MITES applicants. I think they did this instead of a waitlist.

OMG. sorry. theres just so many pages in between
congrats to all acceptances!!!

SL = standard level
HL = Higher Level

My school is one of the “founding IB schools” or something like that, so we follow the traditional IB diploma:

6 courses for Junior and Senior year: 3 SL courses and 3 HL courses

haha yeah, IB ppl are crunched for time, but it’s not that bad if you enjoy your courses… there’s just a lot of extra requirements like an extra course that everyone takes called Theory of Knowledge,
and then these things called “CAS” hours:
Creative Hours
Action Hours
Service Hours
They are pretty self-explanatory
You need a certain amount over the 2 years.
Then you have to write reflections about what you’ve done for CAS, etc.
Also, we have to write an Extended Essay, which is kind of like a thesis (dissertation).
You can do it on anything. I’m doing mine in Physics, so I have to create an experiment and then do 596498654989 trials and then write a thesis-like thing. You can do it in English, and write about a set of books, etc.
Then there are internal assessments, and external assessments. Aka: things that your teachers grade, and things that are sent out to IB examiners to grade.
Also we have to do a certain amount of Labs, etc.
the list goes on and on and on but I won’t bore you all with more details :)

Cw I’m not taking all of them this year only 7 plus this required philosophy class called tok. SL and hl stand for Standard and higher level. The only thing that’s difficult about ib to me is the excessive writing the material isn’t too tough but each class requires ~3000 word assessment that’s included into the ib grade.

I guess I was too slow on my phone but lightyears pretty much covered it.

Lightyears I’m doing my EE in physics too:) just chose my topic it’s about designing a ideal string instrument.

IB is like slow torture…with tests at the end.

HL Math
HL Physics
HL History
HL English
SL French
SL Chemistry

and 7 APs…

Woah!
that’s amazing
i myself am a violin and a harp player (and clarinet and bass clarinet player)
so i really appreciate your EE!
what would be so ideal about it?

whateverhappens, YOU’RE DOING BOTH IB AND AP?!?!!
:open_mouth:
bows down to whateverhappens

also bows down to whateverhappens
talk about dedication huH!? omg!!!

@whateverhappens Do you do IB at your highschool and AP outside of school?
my school doesn’t offer anything besides the IB XD

but then you have to spend so much time studying! how much sleep do you gget? :O

I get about 3-4 hours of sleep each night, although I take two college classes too which really cuts into everything.

YES! I take one college class and that two hours really sets me back.

Guys. I’m so happy right now. If i’d gotten outright rejected, I’d be crying right now.

you’re so positive, holy moly. i’m jealous. i just want my fornicating letter!!

Fornicating? Really?

Um. I think you meant to use another word lol.

Hold on, what’s the other program?
