<p>@ eugenie93: no, you have to apply during your junior year, and MITES is only for students from the US but MIT’s RSI program is open to international students. </p>
<p>and now for my question: Does MITES accept students who aren’t an ethnic minority, but come from a VERY underrepresented state, and go to a small, rural school?</p>
<p>^^everyone can apply to MITES, but its focus is on underrepresented minorities. ive heard of non-minority applicants being accepted due to economic/social circumstances (<50,000 income, certain unwelcoming environments with regard to college, etc).</p>
<p>i guess its too early to be thinking about MITES haha</p>

<p>Kere, how big is the course load? If you learn Single Var. Calc during the program would that count towards a HS Credit? What is the application like?</p>

the course load was brutal. lol. no really.
we all had classes in calculus (either I or II/Advanced), a life science (Bio, Chem, Biochem), physics (I, II, or III), a humanities class, as well as an elective. one of the biggest challenges for me was finding a way to balance all of the work, which i got better at by the end of the summer. </p>
<p>MITES was definitely the hardest thing i’ve ever experienced in my life, and i’m pretty sure anyone from mites can attest to that.</p>
<p>none of the work counts for credit (high school or college), however the classes give you a deeper understanding of the subject matter which is probably most important especially for future engineers/scientists. </p>
<p>the application is like a college app, you have to give your biographical info as well as your extracurriculars, honors, etc. and then you have the essays which is the most important part because that’s where they get a feel for who you really are.</p>

<p>oh and although I agree with Kere that MITES was the most challenging academic thing I have ever done, it was also the most amazing summer ever!
You will meet ridiculously cool people and have so much fun if you really want to. Plus you’d be living like 5 minutes from Boston! It’s awesome!</p>
<p>Hey, quick curly q, I want to apply, but I’m looking to be more of an Econ/Mathematics major, do you have to be strictly interested in the physical sciences to apply?</p>

you most definitely do not have to be a interested in a physical science major. There were people with a wide range of interests in the program. Actually you don’t even have to be interested in majoring in science or math at all. you just have to be sure that MITES will help you in your goals, whatever those goals might be.
MITES is more about getting you interested in Science/Math/Engineering fields and introducing you to the college experience.

<p>I know some people who went to MITES (not the 2010 group) and they loved it! I used to live in Boston and it is absolutely wonderful. I applied to MITES 2010 and got rejected. devastated? yes. Fortunately i had a backup plan. </p>
<p>But on the bright side MIT knows where I live and I visited MIT that summer and I envy the ones who got in >:) those dorms were pretty cool.

<p>There were 3 people from GA in MITES '10.</p>
<p>MITES was basically awesome. Best experience ever. Everyone should apply. I didn’t expect to get in at all, but I was accepted.</p>
<p>Also Gyuki47, I want to go into CS/Math/Econ, and while there is no specific Econ class or elective, you can spend time to go explore Sloan or even try to meet an Econ professor.</p>

<p>They didn’t open them, they just updated the guidelines. It says that it will be available on November 15, so we still have to wait, but I doubt the apps will be any diff from that of last year.</p>
