MITES 2012 Information and Discussion

Did you guys get your decision links in an email that prompts you to log in or did you just log in to the portal and see your decision? One of my friends can’t see anything yet.

hey, amv8111, don’t be a jerk, man.

We got an email saying our decision was ready and to check the portal. Then when you log into the portal there’s a huge message saying you have an offer from the MITES office.

Alright, thanks. I’ll tell my friend what’s up :)

lol MITES hasnt even started and its already cost me a sleepless night. I’m soo excited and amazed and hello fellow MITESers and for those of you who didnt get in theres still time to apply to michigan tech’s programs they have some cool stuff and dont forget to check local universities and find out what they are researching there- if you are interested in a specific subject email the professor in charge, who knows you might get an internship. Also check out online computer science learning from stuff like udacity and the new boston or more general knowledge from good old khan academy or MIT open course stuff and get a job (my area has about 10% unemployment yet my slacker/underachieving brother was still able to get two part time jobs) and such ahhh theres so much to do and so little time! BTW I would love any and all of you who make a wizard’s chess board (anyone know of any open source voice interface software or interested in collaborating on making one? just warning I’m a noob)

so if we haven’t gotten an email yet, it’s a rejection?

No one knows, but it’s a guess

Don’t lose complete hope. Sometimes these decisions are garbage in timing.

I hope you’re right @lolToasty

My friend got an email this morning about his decision. He got invited to MIT’s MOSTEC. There are still good things to be heard this late. :)

I am a parent, question for those who received the emails, where are you located? I wonder if certain regions where notified?

Hey guys!! Congratulations to the MITES Class of 2012! I honestly cannot state how grateful I am to have been selected to participate in that program-- I promise that it will be the best six weeks of your life. Perhaps you won’t notice it then, for you will have A TON of work to take care of, but it will be during the times that you go to Martha’s Vineyard or maybe you stay up talking with someone until five AM that you realize that you are in the right place. MITES has meant so much to me-- especially once leaving-- for the people I met there have been the greatest support group and friends THAT ANYONE would ever hope for. I really hope you can all make it and I really wish you all the best.

If you have any questions about MITES-- whether it’s what to to pack, how are classes, or what’s a typical schedule like, please feel free to contact me. I love MITES and I love talking about MITES. It has been such a huge part of my life and it will always be and seriously, you’re in for the best summer of your life.

Good luck to you,
-A MITES 11’er who wishes she’d be doing it all over again :)

I got into E2@MIT, but what is this program?
I’ve heard of it before, but is there a reason we were chosen for E2@MIT?

Child did not receive an email telling him to check the portal, but I checked the portal anyway. Rejected from the South. See language below:

Dear Applicant

The Minority Introduction to Engineering and Science (MITES) Program actively seeks out students who demonstrate bright promise of ability and interest in science, engineering and technology. As the demand for MITES grows, the selection process becomes increasingly competitive. This year the selection committee has completed the effort of carefully reviewing over 1,750 applications to this year’s summer session. Our selection was not solely based on academic achievement (i.e., test scores, grades, class rank), but a host of other factors that are aligned with the program’s objectives.

We believe that you are a highly talented student who shows great promise in science and engineering. Due to the limited number of students that we can admit into the program, we were not able to admit you for this summer. Despite this decision, we encourage you to continue to seek out enrichment opportunities in preparation for a career in engineering or the sciences.

You may wish to visit our website: [Enrichment Programs](<a href=“MITES – MIT Introduction to Technology, Engineering and Science”>MITES – MIT Introduction to Technology, Engineering and Science) to inquire about other national and regional programs for high school students.

If you are considering applying to MIT please do not let this decision discourage you, as many students who are not admitted to the MITES Program are accepted to MIT as freshmen.

Thank you so much for applying to the MITES 2012 Program. We wish you much success in your future academic and personal endeavors.

Sincerely,
MITES Staff

Hey everyone, I have been a lurker since forever and I would like to say I was accepted to MITES around 10:05ish p.m. last night in my area, I am from the southwest just in case that helps pinpoint the possible regions where they sent out acceptances early. Good luck to all who are waiting for a reply, and congrats to those who were also selected for any of the programs. :)
