Should I put my PSAT score? It was a 206, but my highest score was 70 (on math) and my ACT score isn’t that great either (33 composite, 34 M/31 Science)

did any of you guys who are mites alumni write about non-science or math related EC’s in your essay like musical talents and such?

Standardized test scores for MITES
[Recruitment & Selection](<a href=“MITES – MIT Introduction to Technology, Engineering and Science”>MITES – MIT Introduction to Technology, Engineering and Science)

Would I necessarily be at a disadvantage if my PSAT (which i got a 219 on with a 77 on math) is the only standardized test I have taken so far?

The median Math SAT score is 665 for 2010. However, I don’t think MITES is all about standardized testing.

@AlphaR–Both of your scores are good. You can put both of them if you wanted to, or just the ACT which is a little stronger than your PSAT. It’s up to you.

@JHUBound–I wrote about art, and I’m sure other people wrote things about music as well. It’s totally fine.

@KneeRidge–The PSAT was the only standardized test I’d taken when I applied. I don’t think they necessarily expect you to have taken more. And besides your scores, especially in the math section, are good, so while you could take another standardized test if you wanted to, I wouldn’t worry about it.

How did everyone find out about MITES? I just got a flyer in the mail, and figured since it was free I might as well apply. Do they account for siblings when they look at your parents’ salaries?
Aren’t PSAT scores supposed to be sent by guidance counselors? (I got a 211)
And ughhh my teachers haven’t finished/submitted my recommendations and now I’m just so anxious.
And I feel like I should have revised my essays a bit more before I submitted them… :L

Also I didn’t have any summer programs to put on the list. nyahhhhhhhhh

^Yeah, I don’t have any prestigious ones, but I did a language homestay in Barcelona last summer that I put down. Did you do anything over the summer?

To be honest up until this year I’d never given it much thought; looking back my summers were incredibly bleak. I played some rec soccer, but other than that nada. In my defense (though I know I don’t deserve any), summer programs/camps/classes always seemed like a luxury to me, one that my family couldn’t afford. Now, I see that there are programs that are free/funded by scholarships and I wish I’d look harder for these years ago.

It doesn’t matter if you hadn’t attended any summer programs before; right off the top of my head I can think of at least 5 people who hadn’t attended a program before.

I’m assuming that essays should be personable, not formal, correct? Kind of like college essays, right?

I’m applying to this, but I’m pretty nervous. And I’m a bit confused on the sending scores part – I haven’t done a college summer program before, so I’m not sure how it works. I wanted to send my ACT (worse on Math but better overall) and SAT (better on Math but worse overall) scores, but how exactly do I submit the scores? Should I send MIT a score report for each test as if it were for a college application, or do I mail / photocopy an official score report (although I only have the online scores)?

Yeah, question. So my school doesn’t have normal guidance councelors, we have advisors every year and college couselors. I assumed it meant my advisor, since my college councelor will not be assigned to me until the middle of this month. Is that okay?

Also, I have PSAT score to send in. It says we can upload it somewhere… where?

Finally, I’m taking the January 28th SAT, which the site says is fine. Do I just send that in when I get it?

I REALLLLY hope i can be accepted in the low 20s (in terms of ACT)

also for the “challenge” essay i don’t want to make it sound like a sob story…should it be related to math and science?

what type of challenges are the best to write about?

ohhh and another question: i read a lot of post about MITES and i years before they had them send a photo? do they ask for that this year?

one last thought before i make a feeble attempt to forget about this till april. havnt taken physics. didnt know i could take it my juniro year at my hickish school. is that gunna hurt me?

to upload psat’s: have them scanned and uploaded alone or with your transcript; I think you either need the official copy or a signature from your counselor

MITES Alumni, did any of you guys have essays with over 300 words?

@Kpaaaa

I have the same question; I don’t want to sound like they should feel bad for me or anything…
