TASS (Telluride Association Summer Seminar) 2012

hey everyone! I applied to this about a month ago and recently Ive been getting so much anxiety about hearing back! I wanna hear from other people who applied this year, or who were accepted into the program in past years! What did you all write your essays about? What can you tell me about the application process for you, how were the interviews?

cant wait to hear back!

hey! i applied this year too. have you heard anything back yet? i got my letter today :)

Hi! I got my letter yesterday!
I was wondering the same thing, cause I’m pretty worried about my interview.

I got my letter the other day! I am SO excited its unreal. Extremely nervous, but really excited to have made it through the first round. aaahhh i dont know what to expect!
what did you guys write about? and which one did you say you prefer?

i really hope the interview isn’t full of extremely difficult questions. and both programs sound interesting, but i chose the Indiana program.

YEAH same! I’m obsessed with Michigan in general though, but I’d love to be in the Indiana program because it goes perfectly in line with my interests. What’d you write your “african-american struggle” paper about? slash I feel like it will be like about our papers but more indepth. hopefully they wont be too hard! What do you know about the program? i honestly don’t really know much past what I’ve read on the telluride website

I said I preferred the Michigan one, it sounds SO interesting!
And for my essay, I wrote about the undercurrents of racism. How about you?

A wrote about the large number of African American children living in fatherless homes and how it can impact their life. what did you guys write about??

I wrote about the social stigmas, light skinned vs darkskinned, “good-hair” and african americans in my mostly white suburban community

Ahh. I was never expecting to even make it to the finalist round, my application was so last minute. Do you know how many finalists there are?

@winslow what did you right a few of your essays about??
and neither did i?! after all i read about how hard it was to make, i was pleasently surprised!

i was so surprised that i got an interview! but I’m so excited

just came home from my interview!!!

@elle822 how did it go?? i had mine last week

i think it went well! I hope it went well! It was at a local panera bread, i wore like a nice skirt and a cardigan! She was really nice really friendly and asked me questions that really gave me a chance to expand on things i didnt get a chance to elaborate on in my essays. We talked alot about my plans for the future and why Ive made those plans. She also asked me alot of questions that I felt were to “test my character” and get a better idea of who i am and what Im all about, what about you???

Aww a TASS 2012 page. Again, AWWWW.
I am a 2011 UMICH TASSer, if anyone has any questions feel free to ask them.

@asiaadorespandas ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh i wanna know everything/ANYTHING!
go!

i think overall my interview went pretty well; it was very laid back and questions were mostly about my essays. Plus my interviewer was really nice, so that helped with my nervousness
@asiaadorespandas i have so many questions!! lol what do you think was the best part of TASS?

I’m elated to see that you guys are excited about TASS 2012, and I’ll be more than happy to answer your questions. Also, congratulations on becoming a finalist!
To answer your question Icloo, my favorite part of TASS was the friendships that I gained. Going into a program with fifteen other students from around the country was frightening, but surprisingly - we were like a family by the third day of the program. We shared secrets, we cried together and we laughed together. (Not to make this sound too mushy lol) They are all great people, and I am glad that I was able to meet and learn from them. I’ll actually try to get a few of them on here to talk to you guys. In addition, and I’m not sure if the heads of Telluride have informed you yet, prospective TASSers aren’t supposed to interact to the point of friendship before TASS. The reason is that they don’t want any TASSers to feel left out when you get to your program.

lol im not fb friends with any of the people above, we kinda just talk about our apps and interviews.
AND omg can you tell me more about what its like being there. Like what do you do during free time?I run track and im like obsessed with working out will I be able to run every morning haha, Im a vegetarian will that be a problem?
Is girl to guy ratio even?
How do they seperate the two?
omg i have so many questions ahh
