I am going to be a junior next year and I want to apply to the MITES program at MIT. What are my chances of getting in.
Ethnicity: First Generation Nigerian American
GPA:4.13
EC:I am the president of the Global Action Club. I am in Student Council and Key Club. I am going to join National Honors Society and Academic Decathlon next year. I was selected for a membership for the National Society of High School Scholars. I also played the cello.
Classes:AP US History, AP Calc, AP Bio, Honors English Language Arts, and Spanish 3 next year
The MITES program only accepts about 80 students (about a 4% acceptance rate) and so in order to be accepted, you really need to be perfect. Unfortunately, a 4.13 is just too low. However, it isn’t a bad GPA and you should be admitted to many other programs for sure.
Although no one can “chance” you for MITES I can tell you that the above comment about your gpa is completely false–ridiculous even. The comment about needing to be perfect is also false.
I applied this year with an almost similar background (Kenyan-American, National AP Scholar, 30 ACT, 4.8 GPA) and was rejected. However, if you write exceptional essays and demonstrate your passion (which I thought I did lol) you should be fine.
Yooo I just read this and I’m shook by what @rishfire123 just said. I am a MITES 17 alum and that’s not true. @Youngmis123 If you wanna grab my contact info, I’ll do my best to help. DM me if you want targeted advice specific to your background/situation and I’ll do my best to help.
