MITPAY statement higher than expected

Yeah... similar question, what happens to outside scholarships?

heheh my financial aid > 20,200. so yea i've got the same question as vu. do we even need to pay? :P

I'm going to call tomorrow to confirm, but there seems to be a fund in my account right now for outside scholarships. I think what we do is handle when we get to campus. Most scholarships require proof registration, so I'll bring all my verification forms to get the official stamp, and hopefully the money will be funneled in by the end of September.

If the payment is due August 1st and the next posting is on August 10th, how are we supposed to know how much we're paying? And I am still waiting for outside scholarships. If I do get them, how do I report them?

Fill out the "Self-Help, Outside Award" Form (<a href="http://web.mit.edu/finaid/forms/forms.html%5B/url%5D">http://web.mit.edu/finaid/forms/forms.html</a>) for your outside scholarships. You can either go to your Account Activity under the financial link of websis (student.mit.edu) and subtract your financial aid from 20,200 to get the amount you have to pay. I would just be safe and call your account advisor on the "account activity" page or the financial aid office.

about the extended insurance - do we pay now, and then get that refunded back later? The waiver site seems to be closed down for new waivers for the fall term.

Waiver requests are being accepted now and can be submitted (with MIT Certificate) through this web page which appears active (except I don't have certificates so I can't check for certain) and must be submitted by Sept. 30th.

If the waiver request is approved, the cost of the MIT Student Extended Insurance Plan will be removed from the student's term bill.
