MIT Fin aid

From talking to other admits, it seems like MIT fin aid packages aren't favorable this year despite the "increases" in the amount allocated for fin aid. Heck, I've got some poeple who said they got nothing at all!!!!!! One girl, a friend of mine, said she might not be able to go to MIT because she got NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do any of you have this problem? Or do any of you have a really good fin aid packages? I haven't got mine yet because I turned in my fin aid info late. So i'll be expecting a letter by early April.

I received a very generous offer (PC:$897 & SC:$750); I was shocked and ecstatic

what does PC and SC means?

Parent Contribution & Student Contribution

I’m still waiting :(…
I think I have to call, because there are some huge discrepancies between what was sent and my reality…

MIT fin aid doesn’t seem to be so good this year for many of prefrosh. Heck, I hope MIT will actually look at my fin aid stituation and not just plug and chug in any numbers they receive…

sigh…i barely got anything =(

yeah you know I got nothing and probably can’t attend because of that. :(

i got nothing. ridiculous.

hey tebow, same boat from florida!

It truly is a shame when admitted students cannot go because of inadequate ( which includes zero ) financial aid. Elite colleges like MIT should be more generous with aid. God knows how many dreams are going to be shattered this year because of financial reasons.

the aid matches my calculated EFC from fafsa; so im really content.

I got a really good package too…remember you can always speak to a MIT admissions officer in person and tell them your circumstances. They may change your package (now the tables have turned and they WANT the students, rather than the other way around lol)

Tebow and Miller, that makes three of us from Florida. booooo

Yeah MIT is infamous for NOT changing their packages on appeals. That doesn’t mean we won’t try, but it usually means hope is low.

Yeah, I actually got more aid than my FAFSA EFC, but that number was so ridiculous that even MIT isn’t really close to what I can comfortably afford. I suppose I can’t complain, but I will anyways… :D.

I agree such prestigious school should grant more generous financial aid - my PC from Ivies is at least three times less than that of MIT!

my EFC is 10k more than my next-most-expensive offer. My mom sent an appeal and got denied. I had a visit with an aid counselor yesterday and she said she’d talk with the other financial aid people, and I’m going to fax my other awards.

I loved CPW so much, and I really wish I could go in the fall but I just can’t do 25k/year in loans :(

Last year, my son got zero financial aid - but the FinAid officer did give him a $100,000 Candy Bar as a joke! Some consolation.

We have had a good experience with MIT’s financial aid office. For those who are complaining, how much did your fafsa indicate you could pay? And how is the MIT award compared to that? I simply don’t believe that they offered nothing to people with EFCs lower than the COA.
