Mizzou Financial Aid

Does anyone have any experience in relation to the financial aid at Mizzou? I ran the NPC but it seems very off from the COA listed on the website…plus the header says the cost was for the 13-14 school year. Wondering if any OOS students have applied and gotten money from Mizzou and would be willing to help me. I know I would qualify for some merit due to my stats, but finding out about other sources of aid would be helpful.

Out of curiosity, I just ran the NPC to see how different it was compared to my actual financial aid letter, and the calculator gave me way less than I actually received (and yeah, the COA listed there is incorrect).

Anyway, how financial aid works for Mizzou is pretty simple. Once you apply to Mizzou, you can fill out their annual financial aid application. You have to fill that out to get any sort of automatic merit aid you’re eligible for. It also doubles as the departmental scholarship application, so you can also receive departmental scholarships + any other smaller scholarships the school has available. The nice thing about that is that it’s all through the annual FA application so you don’t have to worry about finding and applying for Mizzou scholarships/grants separately.

I also filled out the Mizzou Alumni Association scholarship application (everyone’s eligible to apply even if their parent(s) didn’t go to to Mizzou). They have a few different scholarships for incoming freshmen.

Those two scholarship applications are both due sometime in December. Once the new year rolls around, then you can apply for FASFA. So it’s basically three things you need to fill out for Mizzou to maximize your financial aid.

From filling out Mizzou’s FA application, I received an automatic merit scholarship, a grant, and a small privately endowed scholarship. Didn’t receive anything from the Alumni Association. Received work-study, grants, and loans from FASFA. Altogether, financial aid covered a little more than half of my yearly COA.

I filled out 59 scholarship applications (from other entities, not Mizzou), including the Mizzou FA and the Alumni Association one and I only ended up getting 4,500 from Mizzou. I am completely paying for college myself but they still counted my parents income as helping me, so I didn’t get squat. :frowning:
