I have heard all over that the University of Missouri is an amazing school for Journalism. I checked out the faculty though and they really don't seem that amazing. I just wondered whether the school actually lives up to the hype. Also I checked out Temple University and although it isn't ranked very high they faculty seems amazing. Varied and have background working in good newspapers and international experience. Any thoughts on that?

I currently attend Mizzou and originally wanted to major in journalism. I decided to switch majors for a few reasons. First, some types of journalism are dying (newspaper, magazine). There is a major shift to the internet and more of an emphasis on digital media. Mizzou does have a convergence major where you get experience in all fields but, the program is very competitive. Those who are in the j-school KNOW they are going to be journalists or I guess if they don’t then they have an amazing work ethic. I would say that if you are 100% sure you want to have a career in journalism, then go to Mizzou. However, they are not the only well known school for journalism so it isn’t like you’re out of luck going anywhere else. I haven’t heard alot about Temple but I really think the decision is up to you. Don’t choose a school just based on a program, if you change your mind about majors you might be disappointed with the school you have chosen. Make sure you choose a school because that is where you want to go!

We have a very good program here at Temple. Not sure what your interests are, but we have many successful alums in sports. One of our alums is an anchor on ESPN. We have several more alums who write for ESPN. The sports journalism scene in Philly is dominated by Temple graduates.

Another amazing school for communications and journalism is Fordham. But alas the application deadlines have all passed.

Columbia is also a top drawer J school.
