Mizzou Journalism?

I'm currently a highschool junior in Missouri and am seriously considering Mizzou in the future. I honestly have no idea what I want to do with my life/major in (except not being a doctor). I have a stellar academic record (currently in the running for class valadictorian, 33 ACT, toughest possible classes taken) but, due to the very streamline way my school does scheduling and graduation requirements I've really been unable to fit any true electives into my schedule (foreign language classes are required among other things.) I participate in debate and am fairly successful at it as well as doing sports. Because Mizzou has the best journalism school in the nation, I would have more than some interest in looking into the journalism program at Mizzou. The only downside: I haven't ever actually taken a journalism class (in high school, anyhow.) I haven't worked on year book, I haven't written articles for the paper, I haven't done any of the "journalism" things I assume most journalism majors do in high school before they enter college. With that being said, is it with a shot to be involved in the Walter Witman Scholars Program at Mizzou (I'll be double majoring anyway.) I feel as though, even though I'm a junior in high school, the boat has already left on some of the "best" career opprotunities for me. Would it be wisest to be accepted in the college of arts and sciences first and work from there into journalism, or, even though I don't have any journalism experience, jump headfirst into the best J school in the nation? Any advice/comments will be appreciated.

How about taking a summer journalism course for high school students this summer? Then you can see if the career appeals to you. My son is taking one at Indiana U. this summer; Mizzou might have one too.

It'd be a great option for me if I wasn't already attending Debate Nationals (1 week), Boys State (another week), going to Latin American countries to volunteer (2 weeks), each spaced about a week or two weeks apart. It's an interesting option that I've considered, just not one that works for me at this time. Thanks for the input.
