As you can see, I am neither a bright student nor a bad student except in Mathematics where I am pretty good.

I do Rowing (+6h/week), academic support (2h/week), and Media and Marketing (3h/week) for my HighSchool.

I have been "High School President" of my precedent High School.
I have also been designate to be a "Team Leader" by the Director of my High School to manage a Team of 15 people in their everyday life (I am in a boarding school).

I participated to an Olympic Preparation for the IOI (International Olympiads of Informatics), and for the IMO (International Olympiads of Mathematics) but I never had the chance to represent France.

Last year, I went to the 28C3, an international hacking conference in Berlin, where I gave an unofficial conference about Smartphone Spying. And I am part of a Parisian Hackerspace. (I am talking about the original sense of Hack, further infos -> <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hacker_(programmer_subculture%5B/url%5D)">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hacker_(programmer_subculture)</a> )

This year, I founded a startup with a friend (who is going to Harvard next year, he is one year older than me), also I co-organized parties in night clubs at the age of 15 (should I mention it on my application ?) .

I am an active member of the Free Software Foundation, and of the French Assocation for the IOI.

I love maths and computers but I also have a great social life. Nevertheless, my grades are not the best.

Sorry for my poor english, I am working on ;)

I chance back !

whatever you do DO NOT mention the " I co-organized parties in night clubs at the age of 15 "

Also, I’m also in french section so could hopefully help you, but you need to say your moyennes over the trimesters?

Thanks you for your reply !

For my “Moyennes general” it’s about :

Trimester 1:
12.45/20

Trimester 2:
13.3/20

Trimester 3:
13.5/20

Well Harvard expects about 16, so that would be a reach. I think you have a pretty good chance for UC Irvine, Loyola and Boston U and the schools in Canada usually understand French system better, but I can’t say where you stand.
Have you taken SAT’s yet? You will need them, and they will play a major role in your admissions so I’d say practice over the summer if you can as well. Get an account on [College Admissions - SAT - University & College Search Tool](http://www.collegeboard.com) it’ll help you figure things out :)

Thanks you for your reply,
I plan to take the SAT and two / three SATs AP Subject in Physics, Maths II and Computer Science.

I always get between 750 and 800 at my SAT I of Mathematics in real condition, but nothing “official”.

What can I do to make my candidature stronger?

Tes activit

For your interests and how you DESCRIBE yourself…and you don’t know about the top schools Stanford, MIT, and Carnegie Mellon…makes me think twice about your application.

Sorry could you help me too : http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1512460-international-student-chances.html</a></p>

That’s true I don’t really know about Education System in USA and that’s exactly why I started a topic on : http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/1514568-wanted-college-my-dreams-2.html</a></p>

EwePilgrim, Merci pour ta r

Pas de probl

Ok, is it the same for Stanford or all other Californian Universities?

I am sure I can have perfect score in Math II and Computer Science but I am affraid about physics and the regular SAT, because my english is far from being perfect and this test is primaly oriented for native english speakers, isn’t?

I think the ignorance of some university about the French HS System could be a chance for me, because my grades are not so ‘‘great’’ except in mathematics… I translated my Grades into a “GPA”; of course it’s not the same because tests and courses in high school are probably harder in France, or “different” (not trolling about the level in the USA, it’s different I love the way you guys are doing things ; the proof is that I want to study in your country) so its about 3.0 GPA

Could a prestigious University make the bet or are my chances really low?

There is no Computer Science Subject Test (I gave you a link to the list of subject tests and what they cover). I suggest you take Math II, Physics and Spanish or German.
I’m afraid you’re confusing subject tests with AP tests. AP tests are taken in May so they’re inconveniently located right when the bac orals start and you won’t be able to take them.

Right now, with these grades and financial need, you’re looking at a LAC in rank 30-80 or a national university with the same rough ranks or a regional university rank 1-5. Higher ranked nationals are all reaches, unless you have a “hook”. For merit aid or financial aid you’ll need excellent SAT Subject scores, plus excellent bac scores for your

Your GPA is about 4.4 weighted. Respectable, but compared to those who will get admitted (with 16+ and typically much more for the top 10 schools both in National universities and national LACs) not enough.

Check out Rose Hulman (for a match), Harvey Mudd (for a reach).

Also, if you’d read the threads posted by other French students in “International”, you’d know that you must NOT use /20? Say “a score of 13”.

BTW, McGill accepts some students with grades 13 overall and 15-16 for math.
