Mmi

Just got back from taking son to MMI, When ever anyone is talking about the middle of now where, they are talking about Marion Alabama.

Congratulations! What else can you tell us arout it? Was there a ceremony? How many are planning on attending West Point next year?

The middle of no where is an apt description. As I heard over the past weekend at West Point, Marion is a great place to be from. My son and the other MMI AOG kids did great during Beast Barracts (CBT) and were used by the cadre as examples of how to do things like march, shine shoes, clean rooms to name a few. The first couple of months are the most difficult at MMI and then things get betteras adjustments are made. The friendships that the AOG cadets make at Marion truly last and make at least the first part of West Point infinitely easier. My son's first trip during the school year will be with two of his buddies from MMI to an away football game...

Yep the middle of nowhere is right! Selma is a 30 miles away through a whole lotta nothing!

I was very impressed. Inprocessing went well, my cadet got her uniforms and set about to set up her room. Spent all afternoon unpacking and setting things up.

djffro: did you stay for the reception? thought I saw a camper parked on the street -
One thing - it was blazing HOT. Not just Alabama hot but record HOT. HOT and DRY. Did I mention HOT? haha. it was the 10th day in a row for +100 deg temps.

The kids inprocessed in the gym -we made the rounds to various stations - last one being SAP table where she met Col Bauer. Then off to get uniforms - wow! Now she likes to shop so I just told her she just bought $1800 worth of clothes at once! hmmmmm she didnt care for my sense of humor. ;)
Anyway - then to the room - unpacked and began setting up. Spent the afternoon organzing etc.

The reception was held at the Dean's home. It was hot so they let the kids wear civies. They were all great kids! The faculty was very nice and welcoming as well...classes start tomorrow.

FWDAD - you information, advice and support has been priceless! :)

momoftwins: There are 40 AOG Scholars at MMI - I heard all but a couple of AOG's chose MMI. They will be a tight knit group next summer!

Yes that was our camper. My son is very home sick, I don't think that he was prepared for that. We just keep telling him that it will get easier as time goes by. We are all counting the days untill parents weekend in Oct. I was very impressed with the school staff and the other cadets. It is going to be a very good year for him and I can see how it will prepare them for WP

...yea...a bunch of us on here where there last year..if he ever has any questions, PM me and ill give you my email to give to him

It took all of us a lot to be ok with being at that place...all of us always said how bad it was at the time, but to be honest, i made the closest group of friend i've ever had and likely ever will have there; and it is outstanding coming to west point with 22 family members.

if you have any questions about marion or what to expect from the AoG year, just ask

PS....FWDAD, it was nice meeting you on R-day (john's coming to my house over labor day)
