First off, I'm really glad that I found these message boards and I'm surprised to see them to active with people actually associated with the service academies. Thank god for Google.

Anyways, I'm leaving this August for Marion Military Institute in Marion, Alabama for a year of prep for West Point. I'm curious, are any of you currently enrolled there or do you know anyone that I could possibly contact? I'm from New Jersey and I'm not sure what I should bring besides the official list posted on MMI's website. I'm most curious to know about what I should expect at Marion as far as daily cadet life and whatnot. From snooping around on these boards I've seen that there seems to be a large NMMI prescence, but I'm just looking for some answers.

I will be headed to Marion this august as well. From what I have heard, all of what we need to bring is on that list online (so says col lewis, the director of the service academy prep program). I havent heard from anyone who has gone but any that would have been there last year would be at bct right now. I would be interested in daily life etc, but have heard very little from them other than the reception on the 17th for the SAP people...

The way Col. Lewis explained it to me was that basically we're taking a freshman year of ROTC (MS101 and the likes) along with courses prescribed by the Academy. I know that forum user tbby2 went to Marion last year, but there's really no way of contacting him/her right now.

...bringing back an old post-have any of you recieved anything from marion other than the bill this summer? im getting kin of nervous that i leave in three days and have no idea what to expect when i get there!

We received an invitation to a reception for SAP new cadets and their families on Thursday night. Also there is information regarding registration Friday morning and a parent meeting at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Its on the web site, but we haven't received any other information from MMI dircectly...

I just got a call from the young lady that is going to Marion for USNA from here in SC. She's packed & ready she said. She & her family will be at the dinner. You'll be able to pick her out of the crowd by her Col. Dad. He looks like a real life GI Joe figure except the Marine version. Kinda scary. She said there were several SAP kids on the list & is looking forward to meeting them. You guys promise to keep in touch here on how your doing. Take one day at a time & keep your eye on that brass ring!

I just returned from dropping my son off at MMI and I was very impressed with the quality of the SAP cadets, especially the AOG cadets. They were very polished, congenial and understood what their goal was for the upcoming year. Dr. Bauer, the West Point liason, was generous with his time and seemed very sincere in making sure that all 22 AOG cadets at MMI report on R Day for the West Point class of 2011. Nothing but good things to report from MMI...
