Has anyone had any experiences with the Michigan Math and Science Scholars (MMSS) summer program at U-Michigan?

I participated in MMSS several summers ago. While it was an positive experience overall, the program was not nearly as challenging as I had expected. Most of the material in the MMSS physics program that I took would have easily been covered in a basic introductory high school physics course. I had the impression that MMSS tried to make its program as fun as possible, but in the process it lowered its standards to allow even the lesser student to participate. Certainly not RSI.

I'm hearing from a lot of people that the program is not challenging. Will completing the MMSS Summer Program increase my chances at getting accepted at U-Michigan for college?

one thing one gotta pay attention is that attending a summer program at an university doesn't really help you get into that college. Most of the top schools in the country have various summer programs that they offer. One thing to keep in mind is that almost everyone who pays gets in. The colleges are simply using their name to draw in more pp and more profit. I'm sure that taking a course there won't hurt, but depending on that to get you into that college is something you might wanna rethink.

The michigan rep at my school was all excited that I’d gone to the program when she did a group visit to our school. I’d say it helped me get in cause of that plus having something to talk abt in “why us” essay
