MOC Nominations

Can a MOC nominate a person for multiple service academies in the same year?

My son has noms to 3 SAs from one MOC and noms to 2 SAs from another so, yeah. At least out here in Utah they will...

Yes, they can

My d's congressman nominated her to all the academies she listed on the application. However, the senators took note of that and coordinated by nominating other candidates. Very efficient way to do it, I thought. We're Colorado.

MOCs can do whatever they want, provided it complies with the law. An MOC can nominate up to 10 candidates for each vacancy for each SA. In theory, a MOC could simply nominate one person (or even zero). Some will nominate the same candidate to more than one SA.

In some jurisdictions (typically those that are very populous with many students wanting to attend SAs), MOCs may only nominate a candidate to one SA -- forcing him/her to pick early. In some jurisdictions, the MOCs get together and will (combined) only nominate one candidate to one SA -- thus ensuring the maximum number of candidates get a nom. In other jurisdictions, some MOCs won't give you a nom to a SA once you've already received a nom to that SA from another source.

And, the situation can change if your MOCs (senators or congressperson) changes. Each can approach the situation however he/she wants. So, the answer today in a given jurisdiction can change with the next election. The best advice is to focus on trying to get a nom from every source for which you're eligible and let the rest sort itself out.
