So for starters, I’m basically screwed if I don’t get in because- even though I really should consider more options- I’m absolutely in love with Cal Poly SLO and it’s literally the only school I actually want to attend. I’m also applying to UC Davis, Washington State (they actually have a good biotech program), Baylor, and possibly Princeton (though I definitely can’t get in there), and then possibly some Colorado schools as safety schools.
I have a 4.08 weighted, 3.81 uw, but a 4.29 according to CSU weighting (10th & 11th grades, only 8 semesters weighted). I took the ACT 3 times and can superscore to a 33 (got a 32 composite twice and a 31 the first time) for my composite; however, I know SLO only looks at your english & math sections. Math was my lowest at 28, english my highest at 35.
I have taken 5 AP exams thus far, and gotten one 3, one 4, and three 5s- however, there was no where to report this on the CSU application?? I sent them anyways so hopefully they don’t just throw them in the trash.
I took/am taking 6 honors and 9 AP classes total in HS. I’m applying for the College of Science & Math for a Biological Studies major- I’ve taken/am taking Honors Biology, AP Biology, and a concurrent-enrollment for a Biotech Engineering class. I’m also taking 2 other science courses this year- in total for all of HS, I’ll have taken 10 semesters of science classes. However, I’m worried on the math side- I’ve only taken/am taking 4 classes (8 semesters) worth of math classes in HS- 2 of them were honors, the one I’m taking now is AP Stat. Also, I know SLO wants 5 years worth of English courses but I only have 4 years worth- though the first 2 years were honors and the last 2 were/are AP and I excell in English classes.
I think my biggest problem is that I’ve never taken any physics or calculus class in HS- am I completely doomed??
The CSU app only let you choose from a dropdown menu of hours for work & ECs, of which I chose the max # for ECs (and checkmarked that I “did have leadership positions in at least one of them”, but only the 2nd highest in work (frustrating because the nature of my jobs means I work different amounts each week so it’s hard to average that out), plus I could not checkmark that “at least 25% of my work experience relates to my major of choice”
Sorry that was a ton, but I’m especially worried that my math courses may bring me down (also my fewer than desired english courses). Any insight to if my ACT/GPA/abundance of science (esp bio) courses for my major may help at all?
