Moderator Question-Creators of CC

Are moderators the creators of CC? I’ve always wondered about this. Also, are moderators chosen based on how many posts they have? This website is very useful, so I wanted to know who came up with the idea for CC.

Thanks,
Foodlover001

Moderators are not the creators (or even employees of) CC. We are all unpaid volunteers who have agreed to moderate on the site.

how does one become a moderator?

Moderators are chosen based on a combination a well-established history of being helpful. Length of membership and number posts are part of it, but a demonstrated desire to help both new arrivals and more established CC members is just as important.

As Chedva notes, our mods are volunteers (though “draftees” might be accurate in some cases!), and we really appreciate what they do for the community. We want even total newbies to the college process to feel welcomed and know that they can ask a “dumb” question without getting flamed, and our mods are a big part of making that happen!

Can we apply to be a moderator somewhere?

Ccuser95, check back in 2015! Seriously, we usually look for members who have been through several complete admissions cycles and are still equally active. In this and other communities, I’ve seen members who were very smart and very helpful for a period of months, but who stopped participating when their situation changed.

Foodlover, CC dates back to 2001. College expert Dave Berry and I were founders, and Sally Rubenstone, another expert, joined us shortly after that. You can still see Dave and Sally posting here. They still share their expertise in [Admit</a> This](<a href=“http://www.collegeview.com/admit/]Admit”>http://www.collegeview.com/admit/) and [Ask</a> The Dean](<a href=“http://www.collegeconfidential.com/dean/]Ask”>http://www.collegeconfidential.com/dean/).

Okay! Thank you! What gave you the idea to come up with CC? I think it would be really cool to be a mod!!
