Modern Culture & Media at Brown

I am considering taking an introduction course in the MCM department this fall – any current students have any thoughts on any of the intro courses? Intro to Modern Culture & Media this fall has a large time commitment during the week – mostly the 4 hour screening every Tuesday night. Has anyone taken this class? I have heard that media at Brown is highly theoretical rather than practical. Also, for the major itself, are there many practice course options at RISD that would count toward the MCM major?

I really enjoy film so I was considering a double major with MCM. However, I am more into the hands-on classes rather than theory-based, so I am wondering if it would make more sense to just take extra classes in the department rather than double major.

Any info/thoughts on the MCM major at Brown is appreciated!

Thanks :/

I can’t provide that much advice, but wanted to tell you that there’s normally into to Film Editing courses if you’re interested in that. I don’t see it for next Spring though…but that could change!

Take classes at RISD in film as a supplement. That’s the best option because of duel enrollment. I don’t know much about MCM but on the list of courses, I got the idea that it was more theoretical.
