I’m interested in doing the Casa Hispanica program in Gregory, but my question is whether or not I’ll get a very good social atmosphere as a freshman. Is there any current student who’s done one of the MLP’s? How “tight” are the language groups, and do ppl still socialize a lot with others outside of the program? Also, if it’s not so great for freshman to meet/form social groups, do you think that could be offset by doing activities outside like joining sorority, intermurals, clubs, etc.? Thx:<)

I did MLP (Maison Francaise). The language groups seem pretty tight - well, French house certainly was. Depending on how the program requirements are for the different languages, you'll probably see your hallmates a lot, since you'll be eating dinners together and watching movies and so on. Most people seem to get along well with other MLPers, and the community is quite close, but not really segregated...you can definitely make friends outside your program, from class, ECs or doing a pre-orientation program or something. People participate in clubs and sports just like in all the other dorms...

Also, it's only really a time commitment if you're doing it for credit, so you have to show up to a certain number of events (but definitely not every night, not even close). If you're not, then participation is optional. So you can go to dinner with your language group every night if you want, but you can eat with other friends if you prefer. Or bring them along...

In between the lack of sleep and the humidity I'm not being super coherent right now, but I'm happy to expound on the experience further or answer any more questions you have.

I don't regret doing it at all, and if you do it for credit then you get something to show for your expensive mealplan besides the freshman 15!

Thanks for the info lauraanne. How did you like Gregory itself? Would you say it was more of a quiet/study dorm or are people into the party scene? Personally, I'm looking for somewhere fairly calm during the week, but I'd definitley like to be with a group of people who know how to enjoy their weekends!

OMG you can't join the mathletes thats social suicide!!

sorry, I had to. I hope someone knows what im referring to.

LMAO i loved that movie.
