Have any current Tar Heels/alumni done language housing? If so, could you tell me about it? The idea is very intriguing, but I wonder if it wouldn't become tiresome after a while. Languages are fun but I know that being immersed 24/7 can get quite stressful. Naturally, this isn't a total immersion situation, but how strict are the requirements? Is it perhaps an experience better saved for a year other than my freshman one? Thanks so much for any advice!

I'm considering French btw, in case that provides any insight.

I know two girls who live in French language housing--they haven't even mentioned having any requirements whatsoever for it. I think they might have movie night every few weeks or something. The dorm (Teague) is nice, but if you're actually serious about French, don't bother.

Thanks so much! Do you think it would be a good idea for a freshman to apply? I'm only concerned because I don't know ANYONE at Chapel Hill, so I wouldn't want to put myself in any sort of anti-social situation.

To be honest, I think all freshmen should live in one of the big South Campus dorms like Ehaus or HoJo..I had a great time in Ehringhaus & made tons of friends in my dorm. South Campus dorms are really social & everyone's in the same boat--just wanting to get to know some people and have a good time their first semester. I live on North Campus this year, and I'm so glad I didn't make that decision last year--the hallway-style set-up definitely isn't the best for meeting people.
