Hello everyone, I have a question about housing. I work much more efficiently when I am alone. So I wonder if it is hard for a freshman to get a modern single at Wash U.

Freshmen singles are generally reserved for students with medical disabilities (there’s usually 1 max per floor other than RA rooms, some floors have none). And working better alone is not a disability. A lot of people don’t want roommates; it’s just something you have to deal with.

So I guess my best option is to find a rommie before the housing application deadline who has similar habit as me to share a modern double, right?

I doubt it would be better to find someone else who wants to study alone. Seems the logical result is two people who wish the other wasn’t in the room. Still, There are plenty of places to study, both alone and in groups, so I would suggest finding a good private study area rather than hoping your roommate doesn’t come home often.

The freshmen I know who went for a sub-free floor got singles, maybe because less people were going for those.

On my (non subfree) floor, half the hall is modern singles. So, it’s possible, might as well try.
