I tried going to the library at around 2 PM on the weekday but heard it was totally full. I was thinking of going at around 6 AM on Saturday. Will there be many people at that time? I usually go to the basement. If the basement is full at 6 AM, what other places at Moffitt might be less crowded at that time?

Very few people enter at 6am (I work at the library), so there’s a good chance that you can get a seat, barring places reserved by others. Some people leave their books and such to “save” their place, but just go ahead remove them.

Maybe try the carrels on the 4th and 5th floor of Moffitt?

Anyway, you don’t have to go to the library. I prefer empty classrooms. You can eat there + have as much space as you want (usually). I’m not sure if Dwinelle is open at that time though. Maybe try the RSF? They’re going to have study space (never seen it before though).

Thank you so much! I’ve been hearing that Evans is open 24/7? I’m a 1st year so I don’t know how the empty classroom thing works. If I find an empty classroom at, say, the basement of Evans and there’s no one in there, can I just walk in and study there?

Yup…it’s kinda cool actually XDDD just leave when people start coming in.

I usually have more luck finding spots in Gardner, especially the carrels near the very back wall closest to Doe on each floor.

5-6am is typically when the libraries are the most empty.

Do people really sleep there as well? I saw people bringing pillows…

@ sad bear: yeah. i was in evans 6 for like a good 5 hours yesterday just lounging/studying. needless to say i obliterated the entire box of brand new chalk. (mainly b/c they kept breaking into little pieces) but it was well worth it.

hahaha on thursday (like 3ish) I was walking through the stacks looking for a spot, and on the floor in the corner there was a guy lying down, fully covered by a blanket (feet sticking out) and snoring XD

Evans 6? What classroom number was it?
I went down there and had trouble telling the classrooms and offices apart because the door was closed. I was too scared to open a door and being embarrassed by either stumbling upon 1. a study group already in session or 2. a private office with a person in there, hahaha. How can I tell them apart, and are there room numbers that are known to be study lounges/open classrooms at Evans? preferrably not on the ground floor because the tiny desks there suck.

Main stacks starts emptying around midnight, and is 2/3 empty in the regions of 3am onward. 6am seems like a good time.

I was there yesterday 12 AM-6 AM. It’s pretty much empty with a couple of owls. It’s comforting to know that you aren’t the only one studying!

Mornings in the library: Great but just ridiculously cold at this time of the year! All I wanted was a cup of hot chocolate when I got out!

Also they are giving out free coffee now (until 2am, I think), you might want to go for it.
