Molloy/Cap21 BFA, is it Competitive or selective?

@EastchesterMom so I’m back! But I am going over materials and just thinking out my track for my audition with Ricky and I realized that the sound is great (not to boast but I am proud of my sound for the first time in a while) and the monologue is almost where it should be and I still have time to fix all that. But I’m beginning to worry acting in both the songs might not be where it needs to be. What do you think Ricky looks most for?

I really can’t help you there, @BWAYWANNABE … Ricky has not shared that with me! I do remember my D being told that CAP 21 wanted to see “her heart and soul” in her selections, and I remember that both Ricky and the accompanist went out of their way to calm. Please don’t obsess over this! Relax, have a good time, and show 'em what you’ve got. The rest will take care of itself, and you will wind up where you are meant to be.

My son (who does not go to Cap 21) rooms with 3 who do and they love it. My son is at The New School for Drama and it is interesting to hear them all talking about their programs. Cap21 seems like a strong one that is demanding, which is what you want.

@EastchesterMom literally just left my audition and honestly had so much fun. Couldn’t stop smiling the whole time! Ricky was by far the best auditor I have ever had!

@BWAYWANNABE – OMG! I bet you broke legs! Glad my buddy Ricky was as advertised! This program truly is magical. As you auditioned, my D is preparing for demos and finals…hope she breaks legs, too! Keep me posted on your journey through the insanity of auditions!

I am sure she will kill her demos! I wish her the best of luck because I’m sure that is so stressful! I really want an answer but I guess good things come to those who wait! He hinted at me getting in but I still have time I guess. Thanks again for everything!

@EastchesterMom IM IN!!! I totally forgot to let you know! But it is official!

OMG, @BWAYWANNABE — many, many congrats! I hope that when considering the pile of acceptances that you will no doubt get from the many fine programs out there, you choose us!

Ok that was the sweetest most supportive thread I think I have ever read. If that is the caliber of support given to students applying to Molloy/CAP21 then I am sold. Just discovered this connection today. Funny coincidence: My D is at a Dominican high school in California. The 4 pillars Service, Community, Study and Reflection are alive in the Dominican tradition. When I saw that Molloy was a Dominican school I was touched. It has been such a great experience for my D. Very committed to the arts and pursuit of knowledge. I think the collaboration with CAP21 is going to be fantastic!

@luvtheatre – welcome to the party! We in the Molloy/CAP 21 family do support each other. Is your D Class of 2021? I can’t believe it, but my D, a proud member of Class One, will be a JUNIOR in 3 short weeks! It’s 3 weeks of hell; besides her theater classes, she has papers and finals in her Gen Eds to contend with. She’s so busy she didn’t come home for our HS musical.

Loved the info in this thread and have a couple of questions: 1) how long does the commute into Cap 21 take? Do the Students find it too long? and 2) you mention Gen Eds - if doing MT are they able to minor in something else? Thank you!

@Eliza806 – Welcome to the thread, and hopefully to the Class of 2021! The commute on the LIRR is less than an hour…you can check at the schedule on the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA)'s website; click on Long Island Railroad; the station is Rockville Centre, on the Babylon line. No, the kids get used to the trip very quickly, and they go together for the most part, so it’s fun, too. My D had planned to minor in Psychology, but CAP21 enhanced the program and added more credits – so she was notified that she won’t be able to minor. We had been told it would be very difficult, if not impossible, and guess what – it’s impossible.

Yes I understand that it can be difficult to do anything but MT! One other question - my D really wants a campus experience which is why this is of interest but is concerned because there are so few students living on campus. Is your D satisfied with the “college campus experience”? I realize the city conservatory training is awesome - just wondering if they come back to campus and it’s dull because all the commuters have left. Thank you so much for your help!

@Eliza806 – There are about 225 kids in the dorms. Your D will make friends with them, plus the commuters…there is a lively and active social life, believe me – there is always something going on, on campus and off. Just so you know, in the MT program, only freshmen and sophomores live on campus. My D and 3 of her fellow CAPpers from the Class of 2018 have their own apartment in NYC now. CAP21 considers this part of the educational experience…if you want to train and hopefully work in NYC, you should live there, too.

Thank you great insight - we are doing a whirlwind college tour next week before senior year starts and this info will help us decide whether to put Molloy/Cap 21 on list. My D definitely wants MT but also wants a “college experience” and isn’t looking at some of the city conservatories for that reason (Marymount, U of Arts, Manhattan School of Music). This program looks like the best of both worlds but with this new info - definitely slants it towards the city conservatory feel especially in Jr. and Sr. year but by that time, I’m sure they are loving the full-immersion city experience. Again - thank you!

@EastchesterMom Forgive me i am new to this website but i wanted to thank you for your advise for the Molloy CAP 21 program. It is my absolute dream school, I’m so so so in love with it–it’s perfect for me. Unfortunately I’m from Ohio and can’t afford to travel to NYC to audition so i sent in a video on Wednesday. I was wondering when your D found out her acceptance? Crossing my fingers and praying!! if i get in it’ll be my final decision! Please send good vibes:)

Hey @BroadwayK ! I’m currently in the program and I’m from Cincinnati, Ohio, so if you need anything feel free to ask

@BroadwayK - if I remember right, it took about 3 weeks. My D auditioned at CAP21. Good vibes coming your way…please keep me posted!

@BWAYWANNABE Wow that’s awesome! I’m from central so I sent in a video submission, I’m really hoping it didn’t hurt my chances. I want to go so bad, when did you find out you got in? My friend auditioned today on campus and said they won’t hear until march probably :frowning:

Be cautious in the New Year. Molloy abruptly ended the CAP21 2 year Professional Program with ZERO notice to students. Kids who passed on other offers and moved cross country were left devastated. Love CAP21. Not a fan of Molloy decisions.
