Molly Ivins: Why We Need Her More Than Ever

Came across this story on the Daily Beast about one of my favorite Smithies ever. Getting to be a part of the same tradition as awesome ladies like Molly Ivins is one of the major things that attracted me to Smith. My parents had no idea how keeping a copy of "Molly Ivins Can't Say That, Can She?" around the house would end up warping my development :-)

This article was written by the co-author of the new Ivins biography and it quotes Molly's last written words: “We are the people who run this country. We are the deciders. And every single day, every single one of us needs to step outside and take some action to help stop this war. Raise hell."

Here's to the hellraisers of Smith, even if they're not on Molly's side of the aisle.

SmithieandProud, I miss Molly Ivins as well. For years, I had admired her biting wit, outrageousness and ability to hit the nail on the head, and it all made more sense when I discovered more recently she was a Smithie. What a powerful hellraiser!

Thanks for the Daily Beast article.

Which houses did Molly Ivins live in when she was at Smith?

You know, that’s a very good question. I wonder if it’s in the new book

Molly graduated with Gardiner House. She transferred to Smith after a year at Scripps.

A bit of trivia: Molly’s mother was also a Smith alumna.

Thank you. Probably only the housing office would know if she lived there all three years–this is just curiosity on my part.
