So I found a university (Ecole hoteliere de Lausanne) which specialises in hotel management. There was a presentation at our school, and I actually fell in love with it, in a way that I hadn't for any other school I have seen before (mainly US). I came home excited to tell my mum that I had found my dream university, only to have her laugh in my face and say there is no way I am applying. I still feel it's my choice, and I understand her point of view which is that it's better to get a broad, liberal arts education and have a choice of which job to have rather than being confined to hospitality.. however I feel this school is perfect for me. A little help please?:)

Hotels are a large and interesting industry. And you can branch into other areas. My boss majored in hotel admin. went from operations to financing and selling hotels. His hands on experience was valuable.

When you are a bit calmer, speak with your mom (and with whoever else it is who might be helping you to pay for your education), and find out what the specific objections to the Ecole Hoteliere de Lausanne are.

Too far away?
Probably too expensive?
In a foreign language?
Not a place she’s heard of before?
Not a major she approves of?

That university is indeed one of the very top in its industry. However there are other places where you could pursue a hospitality degree. Take some time to investigate a few of them as well.

Wishing you all the best!
