Mom Financial Aid Crisis

I need some advice, please. I am desperate to go to school but my mom refuses to give me her W2 forms to apply for FAFSA. I have received aid for the past 2 semesters, and can no longer continue because I am under 24. I'm upset and don't know what else to do. She refuses to give me her forms! HELP PLEASE!

The only thing you can do is sit down, talk with her and work out whatever issues that the 2 of you may have.

You already know that without her paperwork, you are not going to get any aid. You may have to eat some cheese and listen to what she has to say especially where financial constraints are concerned. No one can make her do it, if she does not want to, and you are the one with all to lose and some aid to gain so work on resolving your issues.

I've tried, I even went down to her house with my grandpa- her dad, and she did not want to cooperate. There are no big issues other than she really does not care about my future. I've even begged. Is there really no other solution? I think it is so unfair... I get straight A's and am denied the education I deserve because of my mother's arrogance. (Sigh)

I am truly sorry for what you're going through. Is there any place that you can transfer to and continue your education by living in your hometown, taking classes parttime and/or working?

Also talk to your financial aid office and college advisor to see if they have suggestions. Perhaps you can qualify for merit aid or for a residence assistants job that doesn't require W-2 forms.

Well, I have been talking to my city's Fin. Aid office, and they say the same thing. But they said I can try applying for a "Dependency Overwrite", although the person I spoke to said it would be difficult to prove that I do not receive financial support from my parents. I think I am going to have to take out loans, allthough I didnt want to because I would probably be stuck with a huge bill. And scholarships require that I apply for the Fafsa first. What a mess!

Also, what is Merit Aid and what is a Residence Assistant's job? I am not at all familiar with either of these... :) Thanks!
Oh- what do you think of asking local businesses for help? Is that a bad idea? I'm just so desperate....

Merit aid would be given in the form of scholarships for academic performance. You should contact the FA office at your school to find out if you would be eligible fro merit money.

A resident assistant (RA) is usually some one that works in the dorm as the go-to person if there is a problem/or issue on the floor. They also provide leadership and guidance. At many schools being an RA will get you a stipend along with free room (maybe even free board)

It also would help to know what college you're attending and what your major is. Some people here may have aid experiences with your college or may know of merit aid tied to your major or career goals.

Also, how much in loans would you have to take out? It's not advisable to take out large loan amounts because those can hogtie your future.
