Moment of Silence at SUNY game

They had an announcement before the National Anthem at the football game yesterday, regarding the death of a third class mid in an accident on Friday. They did not say if it was a shipboard accident. My son was not aware of this until I mistakenly asked him if he was friends with the young man. I was unable to tell him who it was since I did not catch the name. Does anyone know anything about the circumstances? I am just hoping it wasn't one of my son's former roommates or a close friend. This is really weighing heavily on my mind, since my son is due to go out next split. In my heart, I know they are in good hands when they go out, but if this tragedy occurred at sea, I want to know why.

Just found out it was a SUNY Maritime student who was killed in the accident. We never heard that on the announcement, so sorry if I worried anyone.
My deepest condolences to the family of the young man.
