My parents are wealthy enough to pay for NYU but not rich enough to give me any more then probably 100, 150 at most. To me at any other college this would be fine but will it be ok at NYU? I understand New York is wayy expensive and a lot of the kids who go to NYU are rich. If the living cost is really expensive, will this affect my ability to make friends since I probably can't go out as much?

oh and most likely I'll be doing work study or a part time job

Will it affect your ability to make friends? Yes. But that depends on who you want to be friends with - some of those rich kids will be down to earth, and some of those poor kids will put on airs.

And, like ALL other schools, some of the rich kids will be snobby and some of the poor kids will be really nice.

Worst case, get a part time job - you'll double your parents' contribution...

Yeah, thats the great thing about New York so many opportunities to intern and work

So you're talking 100/150 per week? Every week? If that's correct, then that'd be fine. It's not like you're going to be going out every night because of work/homework or even eating out every night since you'll have a meal plan. Of course if you want to shop for stuff during the week you'll have to budget accordingly, but that really shouldn't be a problem. Plus the job can bring in some money. In my opinion, that's sufficient.

Ah thanks for clarifying.

It depends how much you plan on drinking/shopping. If the answer is light on both, then that'll be more than enough.

Expect to spend at least $200 a month. Even that's when I was pinching pennies. A more accurate figure is about $400 a month. Some kids spend $1000+ a month, but those are rich kids.
