I got into a pickle.....USC is overall nicer than San Diego State for me, and the programs (not to mention the environment) attracted me much more. Med school is my goal (getting there is a different story). However...USC costs more money than San Diego State....

the choice I have to make is kind of tricky. If I go to USC, daddy thinks it's too much and doesn't want to pay anything past $30,000 so mama is saying she'll work and pick up a job to pay for the difference..(about $8-9,000 a year)

However, I feel quite guilty about this (and she's urging me to just go to USC) so I told her I wanted to go to San Diego State which won't make her work at all. Her working will be pretty sacrificial on her part, as she only has some part-time job.

It's down to each of these colleges, and I have about a day to decide.

Will it REALLY make a big difference if I go to San Diego State? I mean, it's not where you go, right? It's what you do and make of it in college?

My advice would be to take USC and get yourself a job also. In terms of education, USC beats SDSU by far. USC has its own hospital and you have renown professors and such.

Many parents work part time to help with college bills. I’d go with USC which will give you a much better environment and shot at med school. Do your part summers to help.

Also, have they factored in that almost no one gets out of SDSU in 4 year so they would be paying for 5 or 6 years there?

Take your mom’s offer. There is a huge difference between the two schools. Try to figure out a way to make your parent’s retirement a little easier (pay for an annual vacation trip, etc.) when you’re established in your career.

SDSU… party school. USC… party (somewhat, lol) school, but much better academics than SDSU! The Viterbi School of Engineering is good, and I believe pre-med placement/advising too.

Go to USC. I know you feel bad, but your mother has graciously offered. Try to pick up the slack so she doesn’t have to work so hard, you can get a summer job, work during college, etc.

This is an odd one. Usually it’s an USC versus one (or more) of the UCAL schools. I know SDSU is public but … if you got into USC I’m surprised you’re not looking (and accepted) at a UCAL school … what happened?

Anyway, this is a one horse race … USC all the way.

Yeah I was wondering what UC options you had? If you applied and were UC eligible then you should have at least received admission to UCSC or UCR.

If you got into UCI, UCSB or UCD then that would likely be in budget w/o sacrificing you education at all.
