My top choice school was the University of Minnesota but I didn't hear about my acceptance until late April. I heard from San Diego State in January and decided I was going there since I hadn't heard from umn yet. Now I am so torn, I don't know where to go. Minnesota is the logical choice because of in state tuition and being closer to home but I think San Diego would be a great way for me to get out of my comfort zone and also experience a new way of living. Please Help! Btw, my parents said they would support me either way but I know they would rather have me closer to home.

What are your academic interests and professional goals?

Bio major hopefully med school later on

I think UMN would be a good fit. They have great programs in biology, nursing, etc. Also, if you care about your parents’ preference, then UMN makes sense. IMO, there’s probably a reason you’re now reconsidering your decision to attend SDSU, which is likely because you prefer UMN (you mentioned it was your top choice school after all). I say go for it.

What’s the cost difference? How much can your parents pay out of pocket, and how much would be in loans?
UMN is a strong university. SDSU has better weather though and you’re right about discovering another part of the country. But I bet the costs aren’t even comparable…

Although SDSU is not super-expensive out-of-state, UMN in-state is significantly cheaper. Save your money for medical school.

UMN is a great school with a strong pre-med support system. It was one of my top choices as well. You said UMN was your top choice. What changed? Part of it may be the fact that you already committed to SDSU.
Especially since you’re looking at med school (which is expensive!), I would save the money and go with the school that you started out excited about and go to UMN.

My biggest concern is that I will regret not going to san diego if I choose UMN…
