I was perusing some of the other threads and stumbled on an old post by soozievt about the importance of checking with schools on the status of receiving application materials. Now that we are all heading into the home stretch on application deadlines and the beginning of the evaluation process, I thought it worthwhile to resurrect this reminder.

I have been astounded by the number of schools that misplaced or "never received" various parts of my daughter's applications. High school transcripts, recommendations, school reports, 1st marking period grades have all had to be sent more than once to various schools. I know with positive assurance that all these docs were sent originally, it's just that the recipient colleges are overwhelmed and a bureacratic mindset often takes over. One admissions office couldn't even find it's own Summer College transcript sent from an office on campus 2 blocks away!

I have made it a practice to keep a spreadsheet listing all the schools, each component of the application process, the date it was sent and the date received. Starting 2 weeks after an application component has been sent, I have called each school on Fridays to determine if it was received. A pain in the butt but worth it - the number of problems caught this way has been unreal. It's almost epidemic!
