So my parents think I have mono. My lymph nodes are swollen and I have been feeling kinda sick (like a mild cold) and ache-y, but I am not excessively tired. I am going to the doctor on Wednesday to get tested. I cannot have mono. It will mess up my senior year so badly. What are other CCer's experiences with mono?

There are two or three Parents Forum threads on mono, mostly about students who had it just before or at the start of college. You might want to see what they say. Mono can have a wide range of symptoms and severity. I hope yours, if you have it, is mild and short.

I have. Twice. It sucked both times. First time I was out of school for two months (5th? grade). And the last time was last year while we were working on our school play and the ENTIRE cast and crew got it. It was very bad. I was out for like a week.

We were all excessively tired and none of us could sing (musical). We all thought we had the flu but it just never got better.

Yeesh. That all sucks. How common is mono? I don't know anyone who has it at my school (not that it doesn't happen here too).

I thought I had it for sure about a month ago, my lymph nodes were swollen as anything, and I had no energy and couldn't run at all. I had bloodwork done and it turned out I was just pretty badly anemic and had a sinus infection on top of that, am much better now. I hope you don't have it!

I didn't even know what it was until this summer.

My D had mono and the tell tale sign was her lymph nodes on the BACK of her neck swelled up - the dr told me Mono is the only thing that can do that. She felt terrible for 10 days or so - fever, tired, etc. and then just took it easy after that. The important thing if you do have mono is to try to rest - pamper yourself and you'll get over it sooner. I know it's hard especially with senior year, but your health comes first! (spoken like a true mom!)

So I think my lymph nodes actually are slightly less swollen today and don't hurt as much. Yeah, I guess mono is really common at my school. As a freshman I heard that everyone got it by graduation (obviously not true).

A lot of things can cause that so be sure it's not anything more serous then Mono
