Most college theatre audition monologue lengths that are requested are 1 1/2 or 2 minutes max, but throughout the CC posts and in audition books I've read auditors have said that they know after about 15 seconds if the kid has what it takes. So, practically speaking, should the monologue be right up to the maximum time allowed, or is it acceptable to have a 1 minute monologue when 1 1/2 or 2 is the max? Should different versions of the monologue be prepared to accommodate the different lengths requested by different schools?

Along the same lines, if shorter monologues are chosen, is it acceptable to do 3 shorter monologues in about the same maximum allowable time for 2?

I'd really appreciate the feedback of some of the CC folks on the auditor's side of the table.
