MONTCLAIR STATE UNIVERSITY ACCEPTANCES post them and your thoughts!!!

anyone here considering MT at montclair?

Is ANYBODY going or considering this school lol ....and has anyone seen parade?

I merged the two threads you started re: Montclair State. Please just one thread on a topic. These were quite similar topics. Thank you.

As I think I may have posted before, my son has been accepted to Montclair's BFA prgram in MT, and is considering it. Have not seen Parade, but heard it was very good. They are having an open house for accepted incoming freshman on April 8; that would be a good opportunity to go and find out more.

Lizbennet - I was wondering if we met you at Montclai auditions -
our daughter was auditioning and we talked to you. I think your son
was still to audition when we left. You were telling us about Elon.
If you think it's you (lol), how's your son doing? Our daughter got
accepted to Montclair , as well as Hartt and Shennandoah.
We'll be seeing Montclair again this Friday for a dance show!

My d is strongly considering Montclair. We haven't seen Parade but heard it was super.

Sorry Lizbennet - I think I might have meant ABPARENT that we may have met at auditions. Abparent?

Hey songanddance,

It must have been someone else still. My husband took our son for his audition, and it was actually on a non audition day because of his school show schedule. Their accomodating us so well certainly left a good feeling with my son. I believe Montclair is an exciting growing program, which should mean great opportunity for the new class of students. Our son just felt in the long run he'd be happier at a smaller school. I don't know how much difference it makes within the BFA program, though. Many of the BFA programs seem to promote a pretty tight knit group. My nephew is considering their BFA for Art, and my son's good friend is probably going to attend for education of the hearing impaired. Both have been accepted. I've also posted more elsewhere about the school. Let me know if I can help in any other way. Good luck winding down to your decision!

Thanks Abparent! I am excited about Montclair and my d is too, although
she originally preferred to be further from home (we're central NJ) , out of state... (What's wrong with New Jersey??!!) Their acceptance rate was also low - 20 out of 300 so I think they'll get good care. I guess at this point it's hard to compare Montcalir to other MT schools but it sounds like it has a lot going for it.

Our d is considering Montclair and we're going there this Fri the 21st -
she'll sit in on a theatre class and we''' see a dance performance in the evening. Should be good!

My d just auditioned at the last session, April 8. In spite of the weather, she had a wonderful experience. Both students and faculty were warm, helpful and very supportive. Haven't heard anything yet. We're both hopeful no news doesn't mean a categorical "NO."....... I'm sure those of you who are accepted will have great opportunities to grow with the new program..... best of luck to all new Montclair students....

bestshot - I hope your d makes it. If not, I hope she'll feel good somewhere else. But it would be fun to meet you there! It's not easy to be accepted there nor to any other MT programs, as you know. We were at Montclair that day but it wasn't as productive - we couldn't talk to faculty really - except for one dance teacher (my daughter was accepted to MTthrough Dance major
but they're consolidating voice, dance and acting anyway into one MT dept.)
because they were auditioning (as you definitely know!). Now, on Friday,
we'll see more dorms and she'll sit in on a theatre class and we'll see the dance performance in the evening. Should be fun.
Anyway, I really do hope your d makes it.

Thank you for the moral support, songanddance. It may be just my impression, but it seems to be very difficult for transfer students to make a transition. My congrats to those here who seem to have done it successfully. I've been getting the message -- both directly and indirectly -- that the first two years are the school's time to work their magic, and the last two years are the student's responsibility to show what they can do. (At least that's what the director at one of the "top" programs here told me.) Anyone thinking of transferring should really do so as a freshman. (And, of course, my d said she was certainly willing to start as a freshman....). Still waiting for the final decision. thanks again and best of luck......

bestshot - that's good to know about the transfers, I didn't know that (about one yr as opposed to two yrs). I also don't know if they include
the transfers in the total count of students accepted - at Montclair - 20 out of 300. So, I take it you're still waiting? Where is your d now?

My D JUST heard from Montclair -- she was accepted and it's certainly her first choice. She's at a small liberal arts college in upstate NY at the moment. (She was also accepted at the State Univ. but this wouldn't have been a BFA!). She'll be checking on financial aid, of course. Hope your visit was rewarding -- housing will certainly be a question at this point. (She'll probably hear about her class standing -- whether she's a "freshman" even after two years of college -- or if she'd receive some credit for prior work...) We'll see ---- perhaps we'll be meeting over the summer or in the fall.......

Yey! CONGRATULATIONS! We were just there today and had a wonderful day. We saw the Russ Hall dorms which will probably be her first choice
or maybe the Freeman Hall dorm - I heard they're similar. They're both near the Admissions office and the theatre students I heard tend to stay in one of those dorms. Then we cruised around the town, a very pretty town with many restaurants, we ate at this very interesting Cuban restaurant.
In the evening we saw Danceworks, a dance performance by Montclair students. It was very good. I think the orientation will be sometime in July.
It sure would be nice to meet you!

I've been accepted to Montclair for the BFA in Acting with a minor in Musical Theater and am now deciding between that and American University. tough choice. any one got any decision making tips?

Anyway, I've heard alot of good things about the school. I recently visited my brother at Brown and talked to an aquaintance of his who's involved in theater at there. She told me that she had alot of friends who went to Montclair for theater and loved it. She also said all her friends who graduated from there are now working actors, some even on Broadway. So it sounds like a very strong program.

Congratulations to carnivorousplant! You said you're in for BFA in Acting and minor in MT at Montclair. Is that what you wanted? The same at American U or is it major in MT? That info you got about Montclair is good to know.
I don't know that much about American U.

Thanks for your congratulations and congratulations to everyone else who got into Montclair.

Actually I had intially auditioned for the MT program at Montclair, but instead of a rejection or an acceptance, I got a call asking me to come back and re-audition for the Acting program instead, which I got into. However, as an MT minor I can still take all the MT classes that I want. So no, it wasn't exactly what I wanted, but its turned out to be a pretty good deal.

As for American, there it would be just a major in Musical Theater. That also sounds like a pretty good deal. I've always been bad at making decisions. This is going to be a long week . . .

I agree that the whole town around MSU is gorgeous. I love how you can see the skyline of NYC from the campus :). It's great to be that close to the city when you're going into Musical Theater. But then again American is just out of DC . . .

Ahhh! Decisions!
