More about Rice Interviews

Any good anecdotes? Tips? Horror stories?

I signed up for an alumni interview, but nobody has contacted me. I suppose I'll have to call the admissions officer again. :(

I also put in an application for a local interview, and was told that I would be contacted within ten days. It has been way more than ten days...

I had to set up my interview myself. They gave me a list of alumni, and I called until I found one who could do it.

Yeah, I can't remember the link, but somewhere on the website you can put in your zipcode and it will give you a list of all the interviewers who live near you. Since I don't live anywhere near Rice, I only had a couple of options. I emailed the closest one and we set up an interview.

Yeah, I haven't gotten an email yet. What the heck? Argh.

That's why I am going to Houston during fall break (grandfather works in Houston). :D

guys, I would call again. When I called after 10 days, the admissions person told me that it's a new system so kinks in it were expected. She took my information again, and I got contacted 2 days later.

So...any anecdotes in the house?

An acquaintance of mine had an on-campus interview the other day with a senior interviewer. He thought it went really well, but I don't necessarily believe that the interviewer thought so (he doesn't know how to communicate with people without bugging them...). But whatever.

I did an interview when I was at Rice in July and it was what sealed Rice as one of my top choices for schools. I was kind of nervous at first because it was only my second interview but the admissions officer I worked with was very nice. She told my mom that we were going to talk for 30 minutes and we talked for over an hour. We talked about my academics, my interests, the weather and even Harry Potter. She was also an RA in the residential college system and was very informative. She was one of the greatest ambassadors for the university and I still vividly remember my interview

Hey, was her name Laura? I think that might be my RA!

yeah, her name was Laura

I have my interview next week. O_O

I had mine about 3 weeks ago. My interviewee was very nice, and it's really nothing to worry about. We met at Starbucks and talked for about 45 minutes; each question she asked drifted into a conversation, and it was overall friendly and laid-back. Don't worry about it, just be yourself :)

I called admissions and they said that they had just had some problems with Tennessee but that I could now expect a call in a few days. That was over a week ago. I dont want to pester them, but should I call again?>

I recently had an on-campus interview with a Senior Interviewer. It was an amazing, intellectual conversation, ranging from books to politics. Be sure to prepare topics of conversation that interest you and show passion about your activities and pursuits. And as trite as it may be to say so, just be yourself and show enthusiasm about the school.

Dauntless, it won't be pestering them to call at this point.

Somebody called me THE SAME DAY I requested an interview. It was freaky. I wasn't expecting them to contact me for weeks. But instead - two hours? Crazy.

And it's in half an hour at TGI Fridays. Hooray! I'm scared ><

Hmm. Much of the interview was about selling the school. Regardless, an hour and a half of fun, casual discussion.

I made the mistake of ordering a sandwich, though. Should have gotten something I could have eaten with a fork. Oops! It was awkward. But free lunch = :DDDD

Maybe you should've paid for the interviewee's lunch :)
Then again maybe not paying shows your need for financial aid?

Since we're happily on the topic of food...

If I'm meeting my interviewer at Starbucks, should I order a drink? Should I order her/him a drink?
