Thats what it seems like the decisions have been. The results thread shows that more people have been accepted than rejected. Does that mean this is so? i am so confused!

For starters, CC’s results threads are a pretty poor microcosm for actual admissions. Why? CC users are often more qualified than the average applicant, or at least more knowledgeable about the admissions process. They aren’t likely to be people who applied to Chicago because they saw the brochure and nothing else; they cared enough about college apps to make an account on this site, for Pete’s sake. Therefore, it makes sense that their chances might be better.

However, that’s pretty negligible when compared to the fact that people really don’t want to post a rejection. People like to post about how they got accepted, are less willing to post their waitlisting (since they aren’t in, but there’s still hope), and are pretty reluctant to post a rejection, since in this case, it’s over. In fact, a rejected individual may just want to make a clean break with Chicago, not hash out why they got rejected. That’s understandable, and goes some way toward explaining why these boards aren’t a good representation of the actual admissions process, and why Chicago’s acceptance rate is probably not higher than its rejection.

Alternatively, one could argue that a higher percentage were waitlisted than rejected. I don’t think this will be so, but it would still end up meaning that many more people do not get into Chicago than do.

I’d like to add one note to the great comments by heinochus. Even though waitlistees are less likely to post than accepted applicants, they too are disproportionally over-represented. If you’re waitlisted, you’re looking for answers —> You go to CC.

It is, as said above, very unlikely that more people were rejected than were waitlisted, but Chicago does likely have a large waitlist, as it cannot be certain about its yield.

ETA:Oh, I thought this was the More waitlists than rejections thread. Oh well.

I got rejected but I do not care about UChicago! I got into other places so I am good!

UChicago is in a corner somewhere crying because you don’t care about it.

^ So. True.

:-P

lol guys…im pretty sure this guy is joking. it’s mocking the thread that asks “more waitlists than rejections?” no way would anyone think that with the acceptance rate being around 17% or…hovering around 10% according to some of the “unofficial” claims that thered be more acceptances than rejections.

I think the consensus right now is that overall, there was an 18% acceptance rate, and for RD itself, there was about an 11% acceptance rate.

Apparently a consensus is necessary in order to conclude that a simple division problem was done correctly.

For a second there, I thought you said that there was a consensus on the ontological status of mathematical entities. Now that had me excited. Thanks for that. Don’t ask me why I thought you said that (I think it was the fact that you had numbers in a sentence and then I saw the word consensus).

Since the title has the word ‘rejections’ in it I might as well ask if anyone knows if they’re just not sending rejection letters this year in the mail or if I just haven’t gotten mine in the mail yet.

I thought that was Billie Jean King…Now I feel bad. Thanks.

TROLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!! No one’s stupid enough to think this
